Day 19 - Broken Hill to Wilcannia

Up early today to get the van ready for departure. What a day………clear skies and no wind.

We’ve been getting mixed reports about Wilcannia so we were a little apprehensive, but Karen managed to get 4 powered sites at an unstaffed council run park right on the Darling River. A small consolation given we had to abandon the river run.

Very short day in the saddle, I mean drivers seat. Only a couple of hours.

Pretty much uneventful drive although we’re finding the quality of the roads in this part of the country leaves a lot to be desired. Very undulating and pot hole ridden.

We arrived around lunch time so had the whole afternoon to relax. I spent some time trying to fix a few niggling issues with the van. Karen and Graham took Ruby for a walk to the town, Gail, Julie and Anne did what Nannas do (knitting, crocheting and chatting to grand kids) and Pete and I (amongst my handy van duties) searched for firewood for the evening.

Graham and Peter managed to get a little more when he (Graham )returned from his walk.

The “fire starting” draw saw Gail get the first guernsey, although she and Graham tried to subvert the rules. Following Julie’s good example, Gail successfully established the campfire using the flint (and lint).

We certainly haven’t lacked quality meals while on the road. Another great feast tonight.

A great evening chatting, drinking and eating around the fire.
