  • Placa de Catalunya

    31 Juli 2021, Spanyol ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

This is where Aerobus dropped us off from the airport
Aerobus is a very nice way to travel from El Pratt Airport into Barcelona. Makes only 3 stops and end-to-end takes about 30-35 minutes.

Needless to say we were also very happy to finally do away with masks (had them on for probably close to 12 hours :(Baca selengkapnya

  • Our hotel

    31 Juli 2021, Spanyol ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

Was pegged as a 4-star hotel and within reasons I would agree.
Nice residential area, very quiet and as proved througout the stay - quite convenient 2 metro lines and couple of bus stops very close, and walking is not a big deal either:
La Sagrada Familia is only 15 minutes walk, Passeig de Gracia, Casa Mila (La Pedrera), Casa Batlo - all within 30 minutes and Barri Gothic and La Ramblas close to an hour

(The Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) opened to the public on November 28, 1995)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcelona_Museum_…

Not very much to our taste but we faithfully walked through exhibitions (Felix Gonzalez-Torres: The Politics of Relation, SAMPLER #4: Things that Happen & In Real Time. Rafael Tous Collection of Conceptual Art)

  • Casa Milà (La Pedrera)

    31 Juli 2021, Spanyol ⋅ 🌧 73 °F

One of many Barcelona buildings designed by Antoni Gaudi. The building was commissioned in 1906 by Pere Milà & his wife.
In 1984, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO

We had tickets for the evening tour of the building and a special light show on the rooftop.
Unfortunately a really nasty thunderstorm rolled through about 10 minutes before the tour; the rooftop therefore is unsafe and the thing was cancelled 😭

  • Vivary Cafe & Bakery

    1 Agustus 2021, Spanyol ⋅ ⛅ 66 °F

Vivary is a chain. This one happened to be 2 blocks from our hotel and we are very happy that we found it.
The smell of freshly baked goodies is simply to die for and the ladies who work there took very good care of us every morning for the duration of the whole weekBaca selengkapnya

  • La Sagrada Familia

    1 Agustus 2021, Spanyol ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

The Basílica de la Sagrada Família (Basilica of the Holy Family) also known as the Sagrada Família, is a large unfinished Roman Catholic basilica. Designed by Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926), his work on the building is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On November 7th, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the church and proclaimed it a minor basilica.
It completely blew us away when we first visited it in November 2019.
No matter how many photos, videos, etc. one can take - it simply does not do the place justice! As I have been telling folks the 1st thing that flashed through my mind upon entering it was "Thine be the Glory"

  • Portal de Santa Madrona

    1 Agustus 2021, Spanyol ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

The only surviving gateway in the mediaeval wall from the 14th-century city. This gate that led into Barcelona is also the most privileged entryway to the current Baluard de les Drassanes or Baluard de Santa Madrona, a bastion which was added in the 18th century.

Jardines del Baluard - Little park & gardens with a wide walking path & remnants of a historic city wall & gate. They usually are closed to the public and we were fortunate enough to come here on a 1st Sunday of the month - one of the rare occastions when they are open

  • Aduana (Customs)

    1 Agustus 2021, Spanyol ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

This Neoclassical building in the Square of the Gate of Peace at Port Vell opened in 1902. Architects Enric Sagnier and Pere García did a masterful job of decorating the former custom house with Ionic columns, dentil molding and ornate windows. Above the reliefs of royal crowns and the crenels are sculptures of winged lions. The stone façade has a warm glow in the Barcelona sunshine. This building is called Aduana by some and the Duana Nova (New Customs House) by others.Baca selengkapnya

  • Plaça Reial

    1 Agustus 2021, Spanyol ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

A Square in the Barri Gòtic next to Las Ramblas.
The original building on the site was the Capuchin convent of Santa Madrona, which was demolished in 1835. Plaça Reial was then designed by Francesc Daniel Molina i Casamajó later in the XIX9th century.

The square's lampposts were designed by Antoni Gaudí.

We walked past it at night and Laurie was totally convinced that it is haunted!

  • Platja de Sant Miquel - San Miguel Beach

    2 Agustus 2021, Spanyol ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

Sant Miquel Beach is situated between the beaches Sant Sebastià and Barceloneta. It was transformed into a beach in 1755 and is one of the oldest of the city.

Most of the day was spent here just soaking up the sun and enjoying the scenery.
Had some nice fruit snacks with us - and gots to tell ya dem Mediterranean fruits are YUMMY!
While Laurie did her perfunctory "dip the toes in the water", I did a bit of swimming
