  • Last Night in Florence

    5 april 2022, Italië ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

After a full day of traveling to the Italian countryside, we decided to make our last dinner in Florence be spectacular. We headed to Il Mercato Centrale and got the famous la Florentina bistecca. It was gigantic but, between the two of us, we handled it well. Now, we have boarded Italo, a high speed train, that is whisking us off to Napoli. So long Florence. You were good to us.Meer informatie

  • Hello Positano, Italy

    5 april 2022, Italië ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

After a beautiful train ride to Naples, we took the iconic Amalfi drive. Nothing prepares you for the beauty or the height. Thanks to our driver, Giancarlo, we stopped in Sorrento for a chef’s choice lunch and a magnificent view. Chef Luciano brought out course after course, including bruschetta, octopus, gnocchi and a local fish. Magnifico!! Lunch was topped off with sponge cake covered with limone crema. The trek to our villa included 60 stairs, but well worth the extra effort. We are home for a bit.Meer informatie

  • Positano, Italy: Steps and More Steps

    6 april 2022, Italië ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

When we booked this lovely villa, we had no idea what it took to get to enjoy this beautiful view. To put it bluntly, an ascension of 60 steps is required to reach our little piece of paradise. Going down- no problem. Going up- bring the oxygen tank.. 🤣
All said, we are burning calories and it is worth it.
Positano is simple, unbothered, gracious and beautiful. Highlights: 400 steps down to the market area. Alluring public art. Galleries. Shops and Chez Black, our new favorite restaurant. A public bus ride to get back. We are struck by the lovely people who just take care of each other with trust and good nature. The local family owned grocery market that delivered our groceries without receiving a dime until we made our way down the hill a day later. The driver who picked us up in Naples and stopped us in Sorrento to have lunch prepared by a family friend who had been preparing our food all day. The 78 year old father of the driver who came down to the restaurant to meet us. The owner of our villa who bought a new American coffee maker for us. The bus driver who, when we were lost and unable to articulate where we live, stopped to ask a friend to help. The friend called our landlord, who gave explicit directions that the bus driver followed to get us home safely. So many lessons for us. Humility and grace being the greatest of them.

  • Positano, Italy: Morning Splendor

    6 april 2022, Italië ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Near the top of a mountain on the Amalfi coast is Positano, Italy. Nestled among the numerous houses is Villa Chiurli in Palazzo Crocione. She is bright, cheerful, warm and full of beautiful feminine energy. We cancelled our tour this morning and decided to take full advantage of our views from the terrace. A quick call to Alimentari Cinque Giuseppina (the local market) and fresh croissants (filled with apricot and cream) and brioche were delivered to our door. Ken made coffee the traditional Italian way and it was a perfect morning. Happy Wednesday!Meer informatie

  • Positano: The Last Day

    13 april 2022, Italië ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Each morning in Positano brings with it simple, yet awesome goodness. Depending on the position of the sun, the view of the Mediterranean Sea is either a deep cobalt blue or a more aquamarine hue. We are amazed at how more intensely delicious the fruit taste here. Lemons are so juicy you don’t need a juicer to make fresh squeezed lemonade. The strawberries are bursting with flavor. Red peppers taste like red peppers. The Italian coffee is robust and only second to the hearty “buon giorno” we receive from each person we encounter. Grazie. Grazie mille. Prego. Always on the tip of each persons tongue , no matter how slight the good deed. We savored the moments more slowly today and vowed to return.Meer informatie

  • Back In Rome

    14 april 2022, Italië ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

First by car, past Mount Vesuvius, then a train from Naples back to the city we loved the most. Roma! We love the energy of the people and the music, even among the structures that were centuries old before America was discovered.

Back in Rome, massage therapists ministered to sore muscles and Ken got an appropriately hip haircut from Marco.
