• Sailor up Haleyard down!

    October 18, 2023, North Atlantic Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Since the the haleyard of the Code 0 was still on the top and the weather calm , we decided ealry in the morning that I go up the mast and get it down.

Half asleep we prepared everything diligently. Got the main line ready and the security line, GoPro, tools, Little lines. Also a smaller line to attach that the guys can pull it down while I'm still up. After a free minutes of trying the best speed and direction of the boat I got in the bosun's and climbed up the boom. From there Peter winched me up with the e-winch almost in one go. Marc on the security lines and John multitasking Video and painter line.

The mast was very slippery due to the salt water spray and hard to hold on to at times. On the top I could secure myself with my legs that I can work freely with my hands. I reached the haleyard and the broken block. After some tries I could attach the lane yard and John could pull it fully down. Yes!!! Haleyard retrieved! I took some pictures with the GoPro from the attachment at the top which looked a bit worn. Nothing I can do about it now. Should be still good for the rest of the crossing.🤞Got hid by two bigger waves and really had to hold on with hands and feed💪🙈. Done! Now quickly down. Was down in a minute. 😮‍💨 exciting morning.
