After spending the night in Launceston, we made our way west towards Cradle Mountain with a stop to pick up vital supplies of chocolate coated raspberries! We checked into our luxurious spa chalets and there was enough time to do some short walks to provide a prelude to the main event over the next couple of days. Rounding out our first day, we drove out to Dove Lake where we looked out over Cradle Mountain as the sun set. Magical!Read more

Ronny Creek to Marion's Lookout

Our first full hiking day dawned with glorious clear skies, which was a huge relief given the cold, wet and snowy conditions Cradle Mountin had been experiencing. The itinerary for today was to start off at Ronny Creek and heading up towards Marion's Lookout via Lake Lilla and Wombat pool. While it was a little bit chilly initially, we were soon able to remove most of our layers once we reached Lake Lilla and Wombat pool. After a quick tea/coffee/snack stop, we were able to start our steep ascent towards the lookout wherever drank in the glorious view.Read more

Marion's Lookout to Waldheim

From Marion's Lookout, we headed back towards Ronny Creek via the Horse Track with a stop at Crater Peak for our Lunch and afternoon tea. At Ronny Creek, we then headed up to Waldheim where we saw quite a few wombats already starting their grazing. Our day was rounded out with a well deserved soak in our spa in the afternoon.Read more

Ronny Creek to Lake Wilks to Face Track

Today's hike would once again start from Ronny Creek but take us partway round the Dove Lake circuit, enjoying the small pebble beaches along the way until we took the small but steep trail up to Lake Wilks. From there was another ascent up to the face track. At this stage we walked along the base of Cradle summit until we reached the perfect lunch spot to eat our wraps looking at the glorious view.Read more

Marion's Lookout to Ronny Creek

From the Face track, we returned to Ronny Creek through Marion's Lookout, passing Crater Lake and then joining the beginning of the Overland Track. Our refreshing afternoon tea break was held in the shade of a beautiful waterfall on the Overland Track, then we enjoyed seeing lots of Wombats searching for food (around the boardwalk) at Ronny Creek as we finished our second day of hiking.Read more

Rainy rest day

The weather today was a stark contrast to the sunny, clear blue skies we had experienced over our last two hikes.
It was the perfect weather to just relax and rest from our exertions. For dinner, we decided to splurge on pizza from our accommodations onsite restaurant and eat them at the Dove Lake Visitor center, looking at Dove Lake and watching juvenile wombats look for their dinner.

Last day in Cradle Mountain

Today marked our last day in Cradle Mountain. We opted for a short walk just behind Peppers Lodge to see the ancient King Billy pines. It was truly a magical rainforest filled with gardens full of lichen, mosses and fungi.Read more

Launceston and Cataract Gorge

Savouring Tassie culinary magic at Stillwater, we said goodbye to our wonderful travel buddies, Siong and Kirk. The next morning , Cataract Gorge was hands down the best city side hike we've ever done. Huge Kudos to Launceston's founders for preserving this natural gem for generations to enjoy. A perfect day wrapped up with a refresh at Charming Knightsbridge Hotel before boarding our flight home. Tassie trip - Five Stars. Thanks Siongie and Kirk.Read more
