  • On the Road

    March 1, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

Heading South from Alvarado. Not a bad detour as we got in some "early" visiting with our family in Texas and got needed service done on the motorhome. We also met some nice folks who were having work done on their coach as well. Jackie and Gean gave us some great tips on trip routes and points of interest as we make our way southeast. An uneventful drive through small Texas towns, interstates hwys and toll roads.
Arrived at Brazos Bend State Park, which has to be the most beautiful state park we've camped in. Took a bike ride and saw our first alligator!

  • Lake Jackson Texas

    March 3, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

Cruised southeast to visit the Sea Center Texas marine aquarium and fish hatchery. The red drum fish and flounder hatchery was most interesting. So different than what we do in the northwest with salmon, steelhead and trout.

We also toured the Lake Jackson Historical Museum which had exhibits ranging from prehistory of the region through modern times.

  • Farewell Brazos Bend State Park

    March 4, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 59 °F

After four wonderful days at Brazos we can honestly say this is the nicest state park we've camped in. It is well maintained with huge sites, miles of biking/hiking trails and tons of wildlife (especially considering that the park was flooded last spring). Only thing missing was 50amp electric and full sewer hookup at our site.Read more

  • So Long Galveston

    March 9, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

Yesterday evening the "big storm" started to hit Galveston...fog, wind, rain, thunder and lightening. Spent time looking up area weather reports, flood warnings and routes into Louisiana. Today we thought about riding out the storm in Galveston but after checking with the park and the Louisiana State Police decided to push through to Palmetto Island State Park. Glad we did, though Randy said he felt like he wrestled a steer driving the coach through rain, fog and WIND for 4.5 hrs.
We crossed a beautiful bridge in Baytown, drove through some historic towns in Louisiana and saw some rice paddie/crayfish farms (note the traps in the second to the last photo)

Beautiful big campsites at Palmetto Island, it was worth the journey.

  • A Stormy Day⚡☔

    March 10, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 70 °F

The storm arrived at Palmetto this morning bringing high winds, torrential rain, thunder and lightening. It was a good day to catch up on laundry, especially since the park has a laundry room which is FREE to park guests!
Weather finally broke this afternoon so we took a bike ride around the park. We spotted an alligator near the canoe launch as well as javalinas (to fast to photograph) in the woods. A cardinal made himself at home on our sideview mirror and an armadillo walked in front of the coach!
