Theth
July 13 in Albania ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C
It's another early start from sckoeder. All the buses pick up in the same place and are going in various directions it's absolute bedlam but at least this morning I manage to get a coffee. As I'm sitting waiting Lexi comes round the corner and we bid our farewell and agree to catch up in Madrid. I get told to be there for 6.35 and after multiple showings of my ticket get told the bus is 730. I enjoy my coffee with a couple of cigarettes and I'm ready to face the Day. The road is very snakey and at the top we stop to take a break. We arrive in Theth and I'm shocked how organised it is. There are shops an ATM and they even have a zip line. I enjoy a coffee and cigarette before the 20 minute walk to my guesthouse. The more I travel here the more I see how people share there houses as the tourism takes over . Young children of the family learn English on YouTube to be able to facilitate the guests from around the globe. On the way herei pass the famous church but the are so many people here I decide to wait as I can literally see it from my guesthouse so I will wait for the crowds to disperse and go later. I join 2 girls in the hostel who are hiking to the waterfall and I should know better as it's midday and the sun is beating down. The girls are from Belgium and along the way they bump into a scout group. I decide to leave them and continue the trek alone. The last 20 mins is pure rock scrambling and even though the Google maps says the trek is 30 minutes I'm now 40 minutes in. I have maps me which is much better for trekking and although I feel ready to give up I push forward and wow was it worth it. The waterfall is amazing and I stay here for a good hour and a half with the spray keeping me cool. The reality is its packed with tourists but because the water is so cold people stay on the rocks rather than the water which allows everyone to take beautiful pictures. No Instagram posing here. The trek down is much easier and I stop for an iced coffee on the way back with a plate of chips. The chips are homemade and absolutely delicious. I feel so much better in myself today and already Theth has blown me away everywhere you look it's stunning. I arrived back to the guest house and wash out my clothes. I head out for dinner, all this walking has definitely given me an appetite.Read more
