Belize City to Flores, Guatemala

Today we added a little more ink to our passport by crossing into Guatemala and heading to Flores. It was a full travel day in which we rode in a chicken bus for 2.5 hours with the locals, and our pet cockroach, through a myriad of small towns to reach the border. We then boarded a private vehicle to reach the small island of Peten, just outside Flores where we will spend the next two nights. No complaints from us as I loved to see the countryside and despite potholes, road construction and stopping to eat, we reached our final destination in 8 hours. We enjoyed a delicious lunch under a thatched hut where we were served tamarind juice, homemade vegetable soup, chicken fajitas and fresh fruit. Tomorrow we will explore Tikal. We are already fast friends with our 14 fellow travellers and our guide Kike.Read more
