We headed to the inland Victorian town of Ballarat made famous in the 19th century gold rush period.
The area was rich in alluvial gold and at the start of the gold rush up to 14kg of gold was found for every 30cms mined! Said to be the richest patch of alluvial gold the world has known.
We didn’t find gold but found wonderful wet lands, parks, botanical gardens and buildings.
We only stayed a couple of days as Kevin had to go to Melbourne for work (on the train) so didn’t explore as much as we hoped unfortunately.Read more
