• Munro to Retakunna lodge

    January 9 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

Although today was a 19 km walk most of it was done without a pack. We stored our packs and walked out to Caper Pillar and back. This was a stunning walk with coastal views, some rainforest and low growth on the hills. The cliff faces and views of Tasman island were spectacular. 4 of the 5 of us walked up to the Blade where we looked down to the lighthouse on Tasman Island. The one scared of heights stayed a little lower. It was a very windy day so the climb was a little scary at first. When we got to the very top we seemed to be much more protected from the wind. When we returned to Munro Lodge we had lunch and then hiked with our packs for about an hour to Retakunna. Although there was rain this morning we left after it had stopped and enjoyed the walk mostly in sunshine. As soon as we got back to Munro another squall came though. After lunch the weather gods were with us again as we made it to the next Lodge before the squalls returned. We had a little misty rain but that spurred me on to take the lead and walk quickly ( well reasonably quickly). This last hour had some gentle slopes and good quality track the whole way. Last night's meal was a vegetable and lentil curry. Very tasty.Read more
