The heart of Provence, Avignon

The wide Rhône River was our companion as we worked our way towards Avignon. Ancient castles appeared as roadside lunch stops.

And then we crossed a beautiful bridge into Avignon- a walled ancient City- with a rich history and French flair. Our entry was through a “door” in a massive stone wall encircling the town! Into a magical maze of cobblestone streets, Pope palaces, Christmas decor, and French tourists. The French love Christmas and every village has decorations and sparkly festive lights.
