• Historic towns.

    28–29 aug., Australien ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

After the excitement of our Lake Eyre flight we started the long journey home. From Marree along the Outback Hwy, we visited the historic towns of Farina and Beltana. Farina, established in 1878, was once a bustling town on the Central Australia Railway line but became a ghost town by the 1980s. Today, volunteers are restoring its historic buildings. Beltana, surveyed in 1873, was as a communication and transport center, for the Overland Telegraph Line and camel transport. Although it thrived for a while, changes to railway and roads led to its decline. Now, Beltana has a small population dedicated to preserving its heritage.
