    Mundi Mundi Bash

    Aug 19–24, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Bob and had a fun time at the 2025 Mundi Mundi Bash! It was a sold-out event, with a nearly 16 000 strong crowd.
A major highlight for us was participating in the Beyond Blue fundraiser. We got to be part of the massive effort to create a giant human image of Australia, and raise funds for mental health and suicide prevention.
The festival was more than just the music; the whole experience was fantastic. The organisers were extraordinary, from the traffic control, to the dunny angels everything was sorted. The variety of activities and music kept you busy. So many bands, with my highlights being Birds of Tokyo and Pierce Brothers, Leo Sayer was a surprise at 77 he could still belt out a tune, perhaps missing a few high notes, but overall a great performance.
The icing on the cake was the sunset helicopter flight we took. Flying over the venue and Silverton as the sun went down was breathtaking.

  • Muloorina Station

    Aug 25–27, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

We spent two nights at Muloorina Station, situated 50 kilometers north of Marree and on the edge of Lake Eyre. One of the highlights was the artesian bore that flows into Frome Creek, creating hot springs that are perfect for relaxing with a happy hour drink. During the day, we took a drive on the public access road to Lake Eyre, where we walked out onto the lake. The surface was covered with a thick crust of salt over brown mud, and along the edges, we saw small dead birds and fish that had succumbed to the lake's salinity. One evening, we were visited by a few local Poll Herefords who decided to take a paddle in front of our camp. The nights were dark and starlit under a moonless sky, and in the mornings, we woke to the sound of many bird species chirping away. It was a fantastic camping experience, thanks to the insider tips from Fiona.Read more

  • Lake Eyre Flight

    August 27, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

Today, we had the unique experience of taking a flight over Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre, Australia’s largest salt lake and the country's lowest point, lying 15 meters below sea level. This year, due to the floods to the north, the lake has filled to its highest level in over a century. The aerial views were absolutely breathtaking, with vibrant colours and intricate patterns stretching as far as the eye could see. We flew over the mysterious Marree Man, a 28km perimeter drawing etched into the ground.
Our little six-seater Cessna struggled with the turbulence, resulting in an unfortunate passenger in the front seat experiencing severe motion sickness. The smells from both ends were quite unpleasant, to say the least. Despite this, the extraordinary sights made the trip worthwhile.

  • Historic towns.

    Aug 28–29, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

After the excitement of our Lake Eyre flight we started the long journey home. From Marree along the Outback Hwy, we visited the historic towns of Farina and Beltana. Farina, established in 1878, was once a bustling town on the Central Australia Railway line but became a ghost town by the 1980s. Today, volunteers are restoring its historic buildings. Beltana, surveyed in 1873, was as a communication and transport center, for the Overland Telegraph Line and camel transport. Although it thrived for a while, changes to railway and roads led to its decline. Now, Beltana has a small population dedicated to preserving its heritage.
