Leg 2: San Luis Obispo -> Los Angeles by train

It turns out that I was confused about the train seat arrangement. Half of the seats face forward and half of them face backwards. By switching from the swoopy new car (named after Montana de Oro!) to an older train car, I was able to find a good seat on the west side facing forward. I'm going to chalk the confusion up to the incredibly early hour and lack of coffee.

This train route hugs the Pacific coast for about a hundred miles. The scenery isn't exactly stunning, but it is amazing how close you are to the water!Read more
