  • Coral Bay Reef Scooters

    17 december 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

If your not swimming with Manta rays in Coral Bay, then the next best thing is using a reef scooter.

Brett and the kids got these yesterday and had a ball, they kept telling me how much I missed out by not coming out, so when it was to windy today to put the boat in we decided to hire the scooters again. This time we all went in and we took them out the back of Bill’s Bay to explore and see Ayers Rock.

I just loved watching the kids and Brett glide though the water doing flips and turns, they looked like scuba Steves 😂😂. These scoots just made it effortless to get down the the bottle of the reef and glide along the coral and because you are exerting no energy you can hold your breath much longer.

The hour was up much to quickly, except for poor Brax who feels the cold like his mother and was freezing.

  • Coral Bay Shark Nursey

    17 december 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

We went to the shark nursery expecting to see at least 20 to 30 sharks in the shallow waters, but not today. We did get to see heaps of baby blue spotted rays, large sting rays, a few sharks (not babies as the name would indicate) and two pups (baby manta rays) 🥰. Of course I made Brett chase the pups with the go pro trying to get a picture, but boy they are lightning fast!Läs mer

  • Last camp before Christmas

    18 december 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 37 °C

What a spot we got for our last camp before heading to Port Hedland to spend Christmas with Aunty Mel, Joel and Taj.

We checked out every spot and this beauty was the last one on the track. It was right on the beach, was surrounded by turtle nests and right out the front were some lovely rock pools.

We quickly set up and headed for the rock pools to cool down, it was a blistering 44 degrees, the rock pools were a divine mid 30s.

Brett enjoyed sitting in the pools, drinking beer and getting fresh oysters off the rocks, Lachlan tried them but was not a fan.

We really wanted to see some dugongs while we were here, but no luck this time. The second time we took the boat out hunting, an unpredicted wind of over 50km/h came out of nowhere. It was a rough and wet ride back to the ramp.

Cleaverville did leave a lasting impression though, as on the 2nd night we got an influx of midges, which attacked the kids and I! Due to the extreme heat we had left the caravan windows open, so we all woke up at 2am being eaten alive!

We spent the 3rd day relaxing in the pools beating the heat and escaped in the late afternoon before the midges set in finding a camp for the night away from the water. Lucky we had enough fuel in the generator to run the air conditioner all night because it was another hot one.

  • Oh my cuteness

    22 december 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

We have been waiting a long time for this and it finally happened!

We only arrived in Port Hedland yesterday and I told everyone to get ready we are getting up early to find some turtle hatchlings.

We all got up 5am, Lachlan actually sprung out of bed with excitement and we headed down to Cemetery Beach.

It was not long and I spotted some hatchling tracks, we followed them back to it’s nest and when we looked in we saw 1 baby turtle resting.

We sat there for almost 3 hours waiting for this little turtle to be ready to finish his journey and finally he emerged. It was the cutest thing we have ever seen. We followed the hatchling all the way down to the water.

While we were watching this special fella, we saw some seagulls going nuts and then we realised they were taking off with another hatchling 😢. We all ran down the beach yelling and flapping our arms, the bird dropped it back into the rock pools. We checked on the hatchling and it was ok, thank goodness.

Yeay, turtle babies. Can’t wait to do this every morning 🤗🤗🤗🤗

  • Cuteness Overload

    23 december 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 35 °C

Ok, so we didn’t wait long to go back and see more turtle hatchlings. After seeing that one adorable baby this morning we were hooked and wanted more, so we planned to go down for a night viewing.

After dinner, we watched a Christmas movie to pass the time. I was still pumped, when the movie stopped I said “who is ready to go?”. Brett was asleep in the chair, Mel was changing her mind and the kids were not keen ☹️.

Brett, even though he had worked all day outside in the heat said he would take me down for a look, then everyone decided to come. I bet they are they are glad they did because “Oh my cuteness overload” this time we saw so many hatchlings running around in the sand.

There was at least 30 of the cute little creatures trying to make their way to the ocean, but with the bright street lights on so many of them were going in the wrong direction and heading up into the dunes 😮. We used our torches to guide them towards the water and the kids collected some of the long lost ones out of the dunes and directed them back onto the sand.

This turtle watching can be very stressful.

As we were watching the baby turtles, mumma turtles started to come up on the beach and lay their eggs. Lachlan came up and told me it was “the best night ever” 🥰.

What a night, we saw at least 50 hatchings and about 10 mumma turtles come ashore to lay.

  • Christmas Photo Shoot

    24 december 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

No Santa photo this year, as we are on the road we thought we would get a photo to suit our travels. One of Mel’s work mates had this awesome set up in her yard so off we went for a photo shoot.

Earlier in the day, I had spotted a great looking tree whilst on a drive so we hit that up to, it just happen to be right on closing time for BHP workers so we had quite an audience while the boys got their photo taken.

  • Christmas Day Celebrations

    25 december 2021, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

An early wake up call by some very excited boys.

After listening to them tip toe up and down the stairs a few times and then attempt to wake up poor Taj, I though it was time to get up.

It was great watching all three boys open their presents. Santa was a bit to generous this year, I don’t know what he was thinking, I think he forgot we are living in a caravan! The best part was when they opened a gift that the boys had been wanting for quite a while and received this year. The excitement on their faces was overwhelming.

They where also spoilt from a far with gifts from home. Both sets of nans and pops sent presents, as well as Aunty Jo, Grandnan and Uncle Dan, the boys were so excited to get these.

A yummy breakfast followed by lots of seafood. Luckily we were invited to Joel’s brothers house for lunch, they also had a pool to cool off in. The kids wasted no time getting into a water bomb fight.

  • What a start 😬

    30 december 2021, Australien ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

We got up early and we were set to go, road trip with Aunty Mel, Almost Uncle Joel and Taj.

We hadn’t even left Port Hedland when we got stopped due to a road closure, we parked up in the parking bay with a least 20 trucks and we waited! There was a fire and the roads were closed, at 10am they told us they were closed for the day, so we had to find an alternative route!

Off we went again, leaving at the time we had planned on pulling up for the day. Down the coast road we headed, straight into a massive storm! Thunder, lightning, wind and rain so heavy we couldn’t see, we had to pull up again.

We were finally on the road again, we looked up a camp to stay at for the night. Slowly, I watched the temperature rising. We pulled into camp at 5pm and it was a staggering 44 degrees 🥵. When a breeze finally kicked in it brought the flies, a lot of flies.

What a great first day 😂😂, camping with Joel, Mel and & Taj is great 👍 😂😂😂😂. Better luck tomorrow.
