  • Litchfield - The Lost City

    13 luglio 2022, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

We were going to give this a miss, but since it was a bit cold today we decided to drop in and hope that it warmed up.

The lost city are rocks that resemble remanates of an old city ruins. The pictures don’t really do it justice, there were so many different shapes and balancing rocks, some looked like towers and many looked like they had windows. It really did look like an old city.Leggi altro

  • Litchfield - Wangi Falls

    13 luglio 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Lovely picnic lunch and afternoon swim at Wangi Falls.

We all got a bit cold, but it was great to swim across and under the big waterfall. Brax and I got out a bit to soon because Brett and Lachie discovered a thermal pool on the side of the waterfall 🙄! But they said it made it very hard to get back in the main cold pool to swim back across to the picnic area.

Unfortunately, we forgot the go pro, so no up close waterfall shots today, bummer.

  • Daly River - Lee and Jenny’s Bush Camp

    14 luglio 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

    Such a picturesque spot.

The first thing that come out of the kids mouths was ''look at the grass ''😂😂. The camp is beautiful, shady and all green grass for a lovely change.

On our first afternoon we saw crocs, beautiful coloured birds and Brett even saw another Jabiru.

Now to catch a Barra and see the buffalo.

  • Daly River - Lee and Jenny’s Bush Camp

    17 luglio 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

We found the Buffalo! It only took 3 nights of going out and looking!

Brett caught 1 Barra, unfortunately they just are not on this year due to a having a bad wet season. He definitely has given it everything, out there 3 times a day 😳😞.

But, the wild life here was spectacular and everyone enjoyed Brett’s Daly River Tours.

A very relaxing 7 days here, I don’t know where the time went or what we did, but the days flew by.

And it is finally heating up!

  • Surprise Falls - Litchfield

    18 luglio 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Surprise Falls delivered the goods, thanks again for the tip Mel 😍.

This waterfall was closed from Litchfield, so while we were out at Daly River we ducked out from the bottom end, as it was closed from the main access it meant we had this gem almost to ourselves for the day.

A stunning 3 tiered waterfall, rock jumps, rock slides, infinity views, sun baking and swimming a blissful day, no-one wanted to leave especially Lachie the rock jumping adrenaline junky.

  • Daly River - Lee and Jenny’s Bush camp

    20 luglio 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Another day out on the river with Brett meant more croc pics, they are just an awesome creature. There are some big ones out there too 😳. I kept getting in trouble off Brett when I dangled my feet over the edge of the boat to cool them down, I was doing it really quickly and I always checked for crocs first! But it was just so hot, I also had to keep taking my dress off and dipping it in the water, so it was wet to help keep me cool, luckily today I remembered to wear my swimmers underneath 🤪.

Meanwhile the kids are back at camp enjoying the pool with Nan and pop.

After another unlucky run of no fish, Brett dropped me off and went back out to keep trying.

It was pack up day, so Brett really wanted to catch that allusive Barra!

A turn of luck and before dinner Lee the owner took Brett out for a Barra fishing lesson! They caught 3!!!!!! in under an hour, so I guess we are staying longer 😂😂. Brett was stocked! (We all were)

We are now no longer packing up, we are staying longer 😂😂😂, how long? Who knows when there is fish to be caught!

  • Daly River - It’s about time

    21 luglio 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Everyone was excited to go in the boat today, now that the Barra catching technique had been demonstrated.

All the boys were up at 6am ready for the first fish of the day. They came back with smiles, as they had caught a 50cm Barra and had a massive one get away.

They all had a big breakfast and were straight back out for the middle of the day fish, Brett got his first keeper 🤗🤗🤗, 55cm Barra. Braxy got one to, unfortunately it was just a tad to small to keep though. All boys came back stocked with a big keeper for dinner.

Fish and chips on the menu for tonight.

Brett headed back out for his regular sunset fish, Lee went along again tonight as well, after an hour he was back with another big whoppa! This time it was 60cm. They just keep getting better.

Poor mum and dad (Nan and pop) decided to stick to the plan and keep on to Katherine today and know they miss out on a Barra dinner 😩. Luckily for them, Brett caught a 2nd barramundi and is freezing it up for when we meet up in a few days time. What can I say he is their favourite son in law for a reason.

  • Daly River - Today was Lachie’s Turn

    23 luglio 2022, Australia ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

Yay for Lachie, today he caught his first Barra 🤗.

The kids have also been trying hard this trip and their hard work has paid off.

    Braxy caught his third Barra.

Today the kids out fished Brett 😂.

  • Daly River - Ending on a high

    27 luglio 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

The kids and I were just locking up the van and heading over to to camp kitchen when Brett wheels in on the golf buggy and calls out “any room in the fridge?” The kids and I look up and he is holding a monster of a fish and has the biggest smile on his face 😁🤗.

Brett calls out to Lee the owner and his Barra catching coach, Lee looks over and yells “ holly shit” he jumped on his golf buggy and scooted over. Lee said to Brett “we need to show this off, everyone is over at the camp kitchen waiting for dinner”, so Lee took Brett and the 94cm Barra over for show and tell. Brett was like royalty everyone wanted to take his picture with the catch of the season.

Brett felt bad for not giving Rob a chance to catch a fish (last night, he was so excited with his monster catch they came straight back) so he took him out in the boat again in the morning, well they came back with smiles on their faces as Rob caught his first keeper a massive 84cm Barra 🤗🤗. Go the boys!

Then we all went on final croc and buffalo hunt before we had to leave.

  • Kakadu - Maguk Falls

    30 luglio 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Jump, jump, jump! That’s what the kids did at Maguk Falls for 2 whole days.

A stunning spot, with a variety of rock jumps that entertained the kids for hours.

After spending one day there, we all decided we liked it so much we would go back the next day. This time we carried in the cooker in so we could cook some lunch, luckily we did because we were there for 5 hours .

The boys were very keen to get back to Maguk as they had made a bunch of friends at the campsite. All the kids had organised to meet at jump rock and jump they did, non-stop. We had to drag the kids away to come and explore the top pools. Whilst swimming up the top, the boys could see their friends at jump rock down the bottom, so they left Brett and I and made their own way back down the walking track to get back to jump rock!

We were pleasantly surprised when we reached the top of the waterfall, expecting one pool we discovered a range of small to large rock pools. We could of spent another day just hanging at the top section. Of course the boys found a rock jump here also, then we swam up the waterfall to the stream finding some lovely warm water.

The next day, they were pooped, we took them to the pool and jumping pillow at the lodge and they could barley move to do either activity 😂

  • Kakadu -Anbangbang Billabong

    1 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Drove out to see Kakadu’s best billabong. Hundreds of birds, beautiful white waterlilies and a pig.

We also did the Burrungkuy walk to see some of the Aboriginal Art work in the area. Lachlan was very interested in hearing about how the Aboriginals used to live, learn, make their weapons and food, he was full of questions. Luckily Nan and pop were there to help answer them.Leggi altro

  • Kakadu - Jim Jim Falls

    2 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

I really wanted to see Jim Jim Falls, then I found out it was not flowing and lost interest. It was a long drive in on a 4WD track, so I decided we would give it a miss.

As we were driving out of the last campground and approaching the Jim Jim falls camp ground, Brett decided he did want to go and see Jim Jim Falls. A quick radio to mum and dad and in we pull.

The next day, we got up early to bet the rush and the heat. It was only a 2km return walk so not to bad, just a rocky track in with boulders to climb over. It was right up the kids ally. The road ended up not being to bad and only taking an hour not the 2 hours stated in the information guide book.

Although, the waterfall was not running, (the only way to see Jim Jim falls running is via a helicopter in the wet season) it was still spectacular. The walls reach up over 200m. Brett and I both said how it reminded us of Emma gorge in WA, luckily the water was not quite as cold. I was the first one in (and the only one), it was very eery being in the water alone, in the middle of the big gorge and not being able to see the bottom. I got spooked thinking about crocodiles and swam back to the edge 😂.

Unfortunately, the beach area was a bit stagnant. People were swimming there, but we were not to keen. We splashed on the edge where the water was clearer and had a very fun game of skim ball, it was clear I need a lot of practice in the area of throwing and catching.

I was keen for hot chips from the Lodge, so we drove back just in time to grab a few plates. Then the rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing by the pool while the kids swam, played on the playground and jumping pillow. We had to tare the kids away when we left as they had made another group of friends. Every campground we have stayed at at Kakadu has had a great group of kids. The boys have really enjoyed making lots of new friends.

  • Kakadu- Cahill’s Crossing

    3 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 35 °C

The crocodiles at Cahill’s crossing are very active and mean looking compared to the ones we had been seeing on the Daly River.

Today the crocs were hungry and we watched as they grabbed fish after fish. It was exciting to see. While we were there a lady was sitting on the edge of the water taking photos when a man yelled out “Lady sitting down, there is a crocodile right next to you”! Everyone turned to see, I think secretly hoping to see someone get eaten 😂. The silly woman didn’t even move, she just kept filming. Luckily for her, the croc didn’t attack.

It was stinking hot, not a whisper of wind, so after a cold shower to cool down and wash off the sweat, we all headed to Ubirr Rock for sunset. Our last sunset this trip with mum and dad ( nan and pop) 😢.

    3 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Luckily for us we made it up to Ubirr Rock in time to see all the beautiful green surrounds, before the smoke from 2 seperate fires came across giving sunset a very smelly and dull appearance.

Although, it was very hazy it was still stunning, and we got some nice colours coming through from the sun (which was blocked by clouds 😂). The wind picked up giving us some much needed relief from the heat.

Then back to camp for a barra cook up by Brett.

  • Sneaky Fireworks Show

    4 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We left Kakadu, nan and pop, so we thought we would cheer the kids up by letting of some more fire works. We were in the perfect location, a gravel pit all on our own miles from anywhere.

Little did I know, Brett was planning on trying to kill me. He said “sit he, this is a great spot to watch from and take photos!” He even put a chair there for me. Then KAPOW! the fireworks were exploding all around me, I had nowhere to run to as I was trapped in by the car and caravan.

Let’s just say, that was the end of the fireworks for tonight.

  • The kids got bikes 🤗🤗🤗

    5 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

To quote Brax, “this is the best day ever, we got bikes and mum brought us cans of fizzy and jelly at shopping!” 😂😂

I guess it does not take much to please my kids.

Now, Lachlan no longer has to watch kids ride past with their bikes and give me a filthy look because he doesn’t have one 😂.

Hopefully this keeps them busy while, we have a few nasty days of jobs to get through.

The day apparently just got better and better, as a fellow traveller pulled in and they had puppies! They let the kids play and hold them all afternoon. Plus we got a shady site right next to the pool! This is livin!

    * UPDATE : We have not seen the kids since getting their bikes 😂😂

  • Reward Day - Darwin

    9 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

After a week of jobs, shopping, cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning we all needed a break and to get out of the caravan park.

The boys had been great, doing their school work then spending their days riding around on their bikes and swimming in the pool with friends from the caravan park.

So as a reward we hit up Darwin. First up we went to the MAGNT- the free museum and art centre for the NT. It was very interesting with lots of taxidermy animals. Lachlan said it was sad so many animals had to die so they could make the museum 😢. Then we had lunch on Fanny Bay Beach before heading to the water front. We all went on the blow up aqua park , this was very hysterical and fun. Last stop was Zen, a roof top bar we had been told about. It had 360 degree views of Darwin. Such a cute deck area with private tables surrounded by banana palms. The kids favourite part was the free nibbles. They had a few plates of lollies, chips, biscuits and hot dogs whist sitting inside and playing the board games provided. This gave us time to sit and have a relaxing drink taking in the view.

What is a reward day if it doesn’t end with some party food and a movie night. The only one who stayed awake for the movie was Lachie. The rest of us crashed out.

  • Adelaide River

    10 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

I had heard of some good fossicking in Adelaide River, so we called in for a night! Although it was stinking hot (sweat running down my legs, back, neck, butt and boobs!) the fossicking was awesome, so we stayed another night to hit it up again in the morning.

We found amethyst and Smokey Quartz crystals, everyone found some beauties.

Luckily, the show-ground had a pool so we were able to cool down and wash all that sweat off.

While we were in town it was suggested that we check out Robin Falls. We headed out ready for a refreshing dip, unfortunately the pools were very stagnate and uninviting! Lucky the waterfall was running, so we were able to stand under the clean running water and cool ourselves down.

  • Edith Falls

    12 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Another relaxing day at another stunning waterfall.

We climbed to the top of the falls first and explored all the different water holes up there. The best bit of course was once we had climbed the waterfall and discovered more pools and an infinity pool. We had these all to ourselves.

Poor Lachie fell over twice on the walk back home, the 2nd time he took a chunk out of his toe and scraped all down his arm. Lachie didn’t feel like swimming after that, so we headed back to the van for a nice refreshing soft drink.

    13 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

A nice relaxing Station stay, with animal feeding for the kids.

The kids got to feed horses, a miniature goat ( Mrs Boobies 😆), water buffalo, Brahman bulls and the cows. Oh and they got to ride in the back of the Ute, which was apparently “the best”!

The slobber from the water buffalo was next level, the kids were told to wipe it on the buffalo’s head or their mum! Guess what my kids thought would be funny 😫.

The water was not as warm as I was expecting, but after being in for a few minutes it was delightful.

The best part was swimming into the small pool from where the spring was emerging. It was so clear and their was a deep cave to look into under the water.

Brett and Lachie swam up the cave and through a hole in the rocks, Brax and I sat this one out.

  • Katherine Gorge

    14 agosto 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

It was a long, hot walk, but we made it.

We were off to a rocky start, with Lachlan ( after climbing 187 stairs in the first 900m), deciding he didn’t want to walk anymore 😬. We all nearly ended back at the car, but when we got to the part where we had to turn off and head out to the 2nd and 3rd gorge he had come around to the idea ( with an enticing swim dangled as a carrot).

I am glad we did the walk as the first look out was not that great, but the further we went along the better the views.

We were all hanging for a swim by the time we got to Butterfly Gorge. The sign said no swimming crocodiles 😬, but the lady at the information centre had told us this was the only place to swim on the walk. So we braved it ( there was other people there swimming already) and jumped in the refreshing water.

We dipped all of our clothes in the water in aid of keeping us cooler on the walk back. Only 6kms or so to go! On the way back we decided we needed slushies as a reward and I said we also had to buy dinner as I was not cooking tonight 😂.

On the walk back I asked Lachie if he thought Uncle Shaun would have liked this walk, he said “NO!” And wished they were with us so he could have stayed at the van with Uncle Shaun 😂😂😂. I asked him if he thought Aunty Kat would like this walk and he said “ YES”. 😂😂 he knows them to well.

    A total of 15.3kms round trip 😮
