Brett couldn’t wait to get home and get his hands on Shaun’s moped.

He was quick to install a surfboard rack and and ride around town on this baby.

SLAM Factory

During the holidays, the kids participated in a number of scooter camps at the SLAM factory.

To practise the skills they learnt, we had to frequently visit the Bateau Bay Skate Yard. It was always sooooo hot after their scooter sessions that they ‘needed’ a slushee.

Both boys loved SLAM and have made massive improvements over the holidays and are looking forward to taking their scooters away this year.もっと詳しく

In October, I sent some of our precious finds away to be faceted.

In January, we received them back. We were so happy with the result. We got a mix of topaz, zircons, apatite and garnets cut. We got a total of 39 stones back, they are amazing and just made me even more addicted to fossicking.もっと詳しく

Dooms Day

One week to go until we head off and the car goes and blows a head gasket!

Brett and Shaun tried many different things to fix the car, but unfortunately into the shop she went while we waited patiently to find out, what needed to be done and how long it would take!

With the worst in mind and thinking it would be months before we would be on the road again, we got the good news that we are getting a new engine and not only that, it was going to covered under warranty! Yes 🙌 and even better the car would be ready in about 2 weeks time! Whoooo whooo

Amazing day out on the water with Brett, the kids, Taj and Lachie’s bestie Lucas.

First, the kids had a ski and a knee board and then we hit up our fav fish and chip shop at Budgewoi.

The package that stopped school work

The time to head off was getting close. Whilst doing school work, the postman dropped off a huge box. It was addressed to the kids. They could no longer concentrate, they were dying to open it.
It was a care package from Aunty Jo, they ripped it open and could not believe their eyes. It was full of lollies.

School work for the day was over, they could not get over their excitement. They were desperate to taste test some of their special package.

After a taste test, they were not allowed to eat any more until we left. It was also very tempting to Byron and Lyla when they came over, as it sat on the couch teasing everyone 🤣🤣.もっと詳しく

My Birthday

Not quite where I had planned on being for my birthday this year, but a fun day surrounded by people I love.

A sickening breakfast at Warnies Cafe, followed by a round of ice skating. Ice skating was a first for the kids and it took them a little bit to get the hang of it. Luckily we had a three hour session and a lovely ice hockey player giving us tips. By the end of the session they were off the wall and doing laps without falling over! They do have a few big bruises to show for their efforts though!

A day on the Hawksbury River

We finally caught up with Jenny.

We are off again! Finally!

There’s no show like a Night Airshow

We left home at 1pm on Thursday and at 2pm on Friday we were walking in the gates of the Avalon International Airshow, what a way to start the trip.

We went straight in and found a great spot to set up and watch the airshow, it was freezing and the sun had not even set yet!

Due to covid, there had not been an airshow since 2019, so it was big, the whole weekend sold out. I was looking forward to the night show the most, Brett and the kids were looking forward to seeing the fighter jets.

The night show was nothing less then spectacular. A team of 8 parachuters jumped into the darkness and lit up the sky with flares they were wearing on their shoes, it looked like the sky was full of shooting stars. A rocket powered glider went up and gracefully put on a show with coloured streams of light coming off the wings and fireworks shot out from various areas of the plane, it was mesmerizing. The Hercules went up and demonstrated letting off flares and how this is used when under attack. The finale was epic, a 300m Great Wall of Fire. We could feel the heat from where we were sitting.

Then the show came to an end and OMG herds of people started running to leave, we sat and waited for a while, we were not in a rush and did not want to loose a child. I was freezing, so we eventually headed to the car. Seeing the grid lock in the car park and we realized we were not going anywhere anytime soon, so we all had a sleep in the car. Brett and I woke up 2 hours later and it was still a crawl to get out of the car park, but we slowly made it out and home to our beds at midnight.もっと詳しく

There’s no show like a Day Airshow

Well! A bit of a change from last nights show when we were all freezing. Today we were absolutely sweltering 🙄.

You definitely needed the weekend pass, there was so much to do and see.

The kids were excited to check out the Army tent. When we got there they had the robo dog out on display. He was walking around getting pats and licking people 🤣, the kids gave him a pat. Then they got to fly a virtual helicopter, which was extremely hard, but fun.

We checked out all the different defense planes, and the kids collected a great momento, a pin of each of the Australian Air-force Aircraft’s that were on display. It was a great way to keep them engaged and moving in the heat!

A lot of walking around and not as much sitting today, but I don’t know what was worse, walking in the heat or sitting in the sun!

We were lucky today, we got to move around and for the fast jets we got right up next to the runway, front row seats. Lachie was stocked. It was loud!

We got out of the car park quicker today, as we left before the show was over, we thought we were on a roll then we turned out onto the road and saw the traffic! Oh no! The cars were stopped 😬☹️ and they had shut the road we needed to go down and diverted the traffic, our 15 min drive took 2 hours ☹️. Brett was not impressed.

Rampfest

Brax has been wanting to go here for a while now. During the holidays, he was researching indoor skate parks with foam pits and discovered that not long into our trip we would be right near this one.

Brett and I made an effort to take the kids there as soon as possible, so day 4 of the trip, we were there! We got up at 5am to tow the van through the city and miss all the traffic 🤣. We were lucky enough to meet a lovely truck driver who let us park the van in his truck yard for the day and even hook up to his water 🚿, what a score! Showers for all 🤣.

The boys were stocked and spent hours mucking around in the foam pit, which are soon to be a thing of the past. They were were extra excited when a few You Tubers turned up to film their ‘episodes’.

We were all excited to see the penguins come in at Phillip Island. All tickets were sold out except the general admission, so we were expecting to be jammed in with a million people and not be very close to the penguins!

Well, we lined up, got ahead of all the overseas tourists and got right up the front, as close to the rope as we could get. No-one even sat near us, I think they were all afraid of the sand.

The penguins we adorable, they came up the beach right next to where we were sitting. Some of the penguins were so fat from fishing for the last two weeks they could barley walk 🤣, then they would climb up the dunes to their nests.

The penguins would wait in the water until there was a group of them, then they would cautiously ease their way up the beach, then when they felt safe they would increase their speed until they reached the safety of the dunes, sometimes the seagulls would swoop them and they would all quickly waddle back to the water and dive in.

After viewing them on the beach, we walked along a board walk and viewed the penguins in their nesting area, they were so close we could reach out and touch them ( we didn’t, apparently they bite, hard!). The cutest ones were the babies, so fluffy!

To keep the penguins safe, we were unable to take photos, their eyes are very sensitive to any light. This was very disappointing, but they did provide us with some lovely professional photos.

Nearly 20 years ago, Brett and I went to Amaze’n’things and thought it was great, so we couldn’t wait to take the kids here.

Afterwards, Brett could not resist going for a go cart.

Our first echidna 😍, on the path to Bells Beach.

Oh and apparently the surf was good today as well, the best it has been in months.

I did my wifely duties and went down to take some pictures of Brett, I was very pleased with my efforts, until Brett looked at them and I had been filming the wrong person 🤪. Great Ocean Road

We smashed out the Great Ocean Road today! Plans changed a bit, we originally had 3 nights booked at Tidal River, but then the weather turned and the winds were going to be 60 plus km/h, we decided it was not going to be good for beach front camping. So we headed to Phillip Island and onto the GOR, we had one day to get to the other side to make it to Mortlake for Peridot fossicking!

I had been researching peridot fossicking for months and now it is only open to the public once a month, and I was not missing out!

In true Victorian style, the day started out sunny, then it got cloudy, then it rained and got cold! At least the wind stayed away today.

The kids really enjoyed the Great Ocean Road, they made lots of wonderful comments like:

- How many more of these are there?

- They all look the same!

- Do we have to stop again?

- can I use my iPad yet?

- Is there a skate park in this town?

- I’m not walking anymore, I’m going back to the car!

🤣🤣🤣

It was a long day, Brett and I enjoyed the drive and lookouts, we did find a skate park and the kids were finally happy!もっと詳しく

Peridot Fossicking - Mortlake

Yay, we made it to the once a month peridot fossicking, which has only just opened up again after covid! We were very lucky to get to have a go at fossicking for these gems.

The hard work had been done for us, all the rocks had been dug up by the machines at the Mt Shadwell quarry, all we had to do was spend all day looking through piles upon piles of rocks for the right sort and break them open! Easy right 🤣🤞?

Well, it was harder than it sounds, so 9 days into the trip we are loaded up with rocks again 😬! As we only had limited time at the quarry, we decided it was best to load up on rocks and do the breaking and sieving for gems later!

Towards the end of the day, when we were getting ready to head down the hill, Brett found the rock of the day, it was full of huge gems stones, it was a stunner. After that win we called it quits, happy with our big find 🤗もっと詳しく
