• Sunset @ Uluru & Field of lights

    December 13, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 37 °C

Picked up at hotel & drove out to the national park of Uluru (Ayers rock) we were greeted with canapés & glasses of fizz , as we sat & watched the sun setting .. we were only a small group so plenty of space to view and take in the splendour of this rock as gradually changed colour with the setting sun. Not sure why people have to speak so loudly if at all, as nothing is more awe inspiring than what we watching. Once the sunset we headed along the path for open air dinner under moonlight, we chatted to fellow travellers on our table whilst being served some good food & wine, including kangaroo. During dinner we were able to look through the telescope at stars, not too many out as the moon was so bright. after dinner Wendy the astronomer talked about the stars we could see, pointing them out with a very powerful laser. She talked about Aboriginal beliefs & that life on earth is reflected in the stars.. she was very interesting to listen to.. we them wandered through the Field of Lights, an art exhibition of small lights by Bruce Monroe, an English guy who had seen a double rainbow over Uluru on one of his visits & wanted to replicate it as art installation.. I am not convinced it added anything , was interesting . We then headed back to the coach & back to the hotel by 11pm for a quick sleep before having to go back to at 4.30 for the sunrise tour.. I was expecting loads of people & flies & had even purchased a net , but they weren’t too bad & we didn’t see tone else apart from our small group, all well managed .Read more
