Day 1 - Arrived at cottage in Arisaig

    June 11, 2016 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

It took us roughly 3 hours 45 minutes to get from the east coast to the west driving through some wonderful highland views, although the weather is cloudy and wet it's still is very warm. Let's hope the weather picks up as the week goes on.

The new cottage could not be different to last week's, which was a very pretty traditional cottage with great views over Loch Leven. The new cottage does not look much from the outside but once inside wow! It's been modernised to a very high standard and gives us all we would expect from a home from home. Including lovely modern bathroom, conservatory, kitchen, walk in wardrobe, funky stair lights, heating and to top it off a 50" plasma with a full surround sound system. Who could ask for more!

  • Day 4 - A tot of Rum

    June 14, 2016 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Lovely warm day so we visited the Isle of Rum to meet up with the local ranger who took us on a nature walk explaining the very varied wildlife on the island. It's a very special place for wildlife in that they have a unique environment to thrive in as there are no foxes, rabbits, snakes etc.. just the animals which have inhabited the island for 1000's of years which include deer, highland cattle, ponies and golden eagles.Read more

  • Day 5 - Wet & Windy

    June 15, 2016 in Scotland ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

The weather was cold, windy and wet today. So a great day to go to the beach!

We visited Mallaig first, which is where the ferry to Skye goes from., to pickup our tickets for tomorrow. We ate fish & chips in the harbour in very dog friendly tea shop, see last photo.

On the way back we took the alternative coastal route and discovered a string of beautiful beaches which surprisingly were deserted, so ideal for a bit of windbathing.

  • Day 6 - Skye's the limit

    June 16, 2016 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

A wet and windy day but we took the ferry to Skye and decided to drive around the narrow lanes to some of the smaller villages which have great views of the mountains but are not visited by many tourists, as described in Sarah 's Rough Guide to Scotland book.

We both agreed that Skye is lovely and we would like to come back another time to walk some of the mountains we saw.

  • Day 7 - Last Day in Bonnie Scotland

    June 17, 2016 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

It's been a lovely sunny day although their has been a cold wind. We did manage a couple of hours on the beach but the cold wind did eventually force us back to the sun trace at the cottage, which was more sheltered.

We had a nice meal at the local pub tonight and are planning on a early night as we have a three and half hour journey to Glasgow airport tomorrow morning.

We are hoping Hazels mum and dad's move to Birmingham has gone well today and so tomorrow we are planning to drop in and see them in their new home on the way back from the airport.
