So we are playing a little bit of catch up after an interesting day yesterday. Starting out with collecting our car from the airport and then playing chicken with right hand turns on our way to the Calipino Suspension Bridge. OMG that was truly amazing and scary. Gill and Steve thank you for Tig's experience. IT truly did wobble, but not helped by some of the other people on the other side. After visiting, we thought we might have some time to go up to Grouse mountain, on arrival we found out that they had had some sightings of bears, but unfortunately we didn't really have time to take the trail. And also it was sooooooooooooooooooooo hot. So we had a quick look around, we had wanted to go to see the lumberjack's but that meant going up on the gondola, which we hadn't really planned in. So off we went to find the ferry to Victoria. Then came Day 2. Last night we did find a really cool bar for dinner and live music. I even contemplated eating oysters. But Gilly P I am going to save that until I am with you . Under close supervision. One pint and we were out for the count. Not bad having been awake since 2.30 in the morning.もっと詳しく

  • Victoria - Day 2 catch up day

    2017年8月29日, カナダ ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Today was a day of firsts, first time we've been in a seaplane, and first time I heard Tig say he enjoyed some Gardens. Tig surprised me with a trip around Victoria via seaplane, all very exciting, even though some of our passengers didn't think so! Then off to Butchart Gardens - thank you for the recommendation A&A - it was amazing, so many colours working in harmony in the different gardens.
Tonight its another walk, to a famous fish n chip place, then maybe a ride home in water taxi

Wow what a day - biking this morning and then whale watching, after a lovely lunch. When we set out all kitted up at 5.30 who would have thought it would be 9.30 before we got back in, having travelled 65 miles and seen hump back whales and orca's. On both of our bucket lists. Thank you Carol and Simon for the whale watching trip and Gill and Steve P for the bike trip. Awesome memory day.もっと詳しく

  • Bella Coola - Day 4 continued

    2017年9月2日, カナダ ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Wow what a day. And that is even before we start on the fact it was Tigs birthday. At the airport we were told that there was a weather ceiling and that we might not be able to land into the narrow valley of Bella Coola... Little did we know what that meant? Two hours in the smallest but friendliest airport, people watching before heading off for a two hour bus adventure down the hill to Bella Coola. When the 4 x 4 yellow school bus turned up, we knew we were in for an interesting ride. Little did we know we would be dropping 4,000 feet in 13 kilometres, with big rock fall and avalanche signs. Not much room for over taking... A real road for one of the worlds most dangerous roads programmes. All we needed was to see two comedians in a 4 x 4 coming the other way filming. The scarey thing is that we may need to do it on the way home. However we then arrived at the lodge, had lunch and went straight out on a float trip. Where we saw these little fellas.... Both amazed at the beauty and I think it might have made someone's birthday.もっと詳しく

  • Bella Coola Day 2

    2017年9月3日, カナダ ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Having trouble with photo uploads so we will post lots of photos when we arrive back in civilisation. So woke up to sadly another rainy day, but that was not going to stop us going out to see if we can see more bears. The morning started with a real Canadian breakfast of pancakes and eggs - not sure we can do that every day , but the food here is amazing. Did I mention they even made Tig a lovely birthday cake last night. I thought he was going to kill me when everyone started to sing happy birthday. Obviously I am still alive to tell the tail as I am writing this. The staff were pleased as the first cake they made had coconut oil in it, and then they remembered the allergy, made cake 2. Staff very happy!!.

So this morning we set off for another raft trip and were soon greeted by a female grizzly bear walking along the bank. Crossing the river and walking on here hind legs. Amazing. Having left here we drifted a bit further and then spent a long time following another bear across and down the river until we got to the log jam. Hearts racing we stayed watching the bear, as she got ever closer to us , and at one point was no more than a metre away. Very lucky. The good thing was that she was totally not bothered by us, was just looking for fish and berries. So after a whilst watching we went off on our way and saw another couple of bears, including a mum and her beautiful cup. So funny watching him/her following mum and trying to do everything she did. Not so good at catching fish, but I am sure she will be soon.

After lunch, yes more food, we went off with a different Guide to the Big Cedar Trail, where we saw and learnt about the living cultural forest. Lots of explanations about how the first nation used the word, and how the cedars survive despite having been used to make, cloths, build canoes, and also used as smoke houses. Before heading back to the lodge for more food, and getting beaten at table tennis we went to see where the salmon start their journey at the estuary as well as some amazing water falls.

The weather here hasn't been great, but the bears don't seem to mind, and we are managing to dry out in between each part of the day. Sadly it is raining now so not sure we will get photos of sunny bears. but do have photos of bears, so very lucky to see these amazing animals as well as listening to two more bald eagles chatting in the tree tops.

  • Bella Coola - Day three afternoon

    2017年9月3日, カナダ ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

So yet another day in paradise. A great morning with Ellie walking and finding bears. What an amazing lady. We learnt so much about bears and what they do and how they live. Followed by a lovely lunch and then a final float trip. Not so many bears this time but still fabulous scenery even including our resident bald eagles.もっと詳しく

  • Leaving Bella Coola for Hope

    2017年9月4日, カナダ ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

So today was always going to be sad, leaving the most beautiful Bella Coola for the next part of our trip. Having decided last night, that we were going to maximise our bear viewing, we got up early , well 7.30 and headed straight to the hide. Unfortunately we were a little late, as one bear had already been spotted, but whilst we were still snoozing. The rest of the morning was spent playing tag, between packing, having breakfast and trying to spot our last bear. Sadly it wasn't to be, so after saying good bye to the mountains we headed to the airport. I have to say Gatwick and Heathrow you have a lot to live up to, when your guide says "after you have checked in, fancy a quick bush walk".. The cedar trees were amazing and after walking to the end of the runway, watching the plan land we headed back to say our goodbyes and jump on the plan. The plan route was truly amazing, taking us out of the thin corridor of mountains that we had missed due to bad weather on the way in, having touched down at Anheim lack, we were then truly coming back to Vancouver. We picked up another car at the airport, a few obnoxious americans later, they were sooooo rude to the poor bus driver, which turned out to be a super kia, having first been offered some 7 seater ford. Scary. Our trip tonight has ended in Hope, where we need to see which way to go due to smoke from the wild fires. We are all good but the wind can affect the level of smoke that gets on the to the highway. Tomorrow brings with it a long drive to Revelstoke, after seeing the Othello tunnels and doing some hiking. Night everyone.もっと詳しく

  • Revelstoke

    2017年9月5日, カナダ ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

We always knew that today was going to be a long day of driving and it sure was. But what an area to drive through, great big mountains, desert, yes desert in Canada. The shadow of the fires is still apparent and when we saw some photos of Oregon realised how bad things can be for some time. We are totally safe but we can see the impact of the fires in the south up here. Before we set off on our long drive we decided to visit the Othello tunnels, tunnels that were built to get the railway from east to west. An amazing feat of engineering and when you see them , wow. Well in true Bev and Tig style our 1km walk ended up being 5.5km, not because we got lost but decided to go over the Hill... Over the Hill for us was more like a very steep hill but very pretty. The township of Hope was really sweet with lots of wood carvings, including one dedicated to a royal Canadian mounted dog. .. Our b and b is lovely and we ended up the evening with a curry.. which was really yum..もっと詳しく

  • Revelstoke - Full Day

    2017年9月6日, カナダ ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We are staying in the most lovely of B&B's just on the outskirts of Revelstoke. So friendly and we had the best breakfast of canadaian waffles, maple syrup, fresh fruit to set us up for the day. The plan for the day was to go into hte national park, making use of our free pass for Canada's 150 years of independence... to make the drive to the meadows in the skyway. The drive was beautiful, sadly the smoke from the forest fires did mean we could only see so far, but did not make it any the less impressive. When we arrived at the car park, we did see that there had been a recent bear sighting... some of the other people visiting would definitely have scared any bear off. Need Mrs PC say anything else.... After a lovely hike to the top of the mountain we headed down the mountain and stopped off at the inspirational wood, also amazing, before heading back to our B &B after having had a lovely avalanche ice cream... yum so big though I couldn't eat it. Off for dinner shortly, thank you to our B& B host who is kindly letting us do some washing so we don't run out of clothes. I did say to Alan (Tig) that we could always buy some new t shirts.. which I think we will do before heading off to see the wolves and yoho national park tomorrow. Hope everyone is okay and enjoying their trips or working...もっと詳しく

  • Banff - The arrival

    2017年9月7日, カナダ ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Well today we have said goodbye to Revelstoke, been shopping, driven through smoke, hiked to an amazing waterfall, seen a natural bridge, emerald lake and finally stopped at Banff for the night and a beer. At the moment we are sat chilling before going for dinner, but it has been a day of wows. Sadly the smoke has affected some of the scenery but not everything so that is all good. We have however seen some amazing road signs and the biggest trucks that I have ever seen.... so here are a few photos of the day.. PS I have to confess, its only taken me four days but I have had a glass of chardonnay and actually liked it, the second one however was not so good... There may be more than one posting of photos... Exploring Banff tomorrow.もっと詳しく

  • Kamloops - The return of the Hopkins...

    2017年9月13日, カナダ ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Okay after quite a few days of radio, well internet silence we have quite a lot to catch up... well that is if we can actually remember. Not sure if that is a sign of old age or the fact that we have done so much in such a short time, including seeing weather extremes from 30 degrees plus to today of biting wind and snow on the top of the mountains. To avoid confusion I will try and update each day seperately. But here are some photos from our drive and early morning visit to Lake Edith, in Jaspar (I think this must be worth some brownie points) , to Kamloops where there are people and loads of cars....もっと詳しく

  • After Banff

    2017年9月13日, カナダ ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Our stay in Banff was very short, a quick trip to Tim Hortons for breakfast and we decided to hot foot it back to Yoho National Park, the home of Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and Emerald Lake.

We started the morning, with a cold but pretty trip to Johnstone Canyon and Gorge. Great coffee at the coffee shack at the bottom. The Gorge was amazing and it was lovely to see such an array of different types and ages of people. walking to the different levels of the gorge. One of the most amazing things was seeing a guy carry his guitar and start to play at the lower falls...

After this we hot footed it to Lake Louise, Sadly the smoke was still pretty obvious so it was not as pretty as we had thought, but we had a lovely hike up to the Fairmount Lookout followed by a canoe on the lake. Which was truly amazing. We were only allowed out for half an hour due to the lack of visibility but we could start to see the beauty of the area. The evening was rounded off by drinks by the water at our new lodge and then a fab dinner. A truly great day.

  • Day 2 - Yoho National Park

    2017年9月13日, カナダ ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

So after a quick breakfast we set off to walk around Emerald lake, which was really beautiful, followed by a trip, and the most expensive coffee EVER at Moraine Lake Lodge. To think we nearly stayed there.. so glad that we didn't as it was full of people. Both Emerald and Moraine lakes were both beautiful and enabled us to people watch and start to really see the mountains and lakes that we had come to this amazing country to see. The only down side, was that we got so wet, so we had to slowly dry out in our new home.もっと詳しく
