• Kim, the new reef species

    November 25, 2025 in Bonaire ⋅ 🌬 29 °C

The light voice of an older woman comes to my ears. It pulls me out of my dream of Tahiti. I put the travel guide from 1994 aside. 30 years it was in the book shelf, now I read it.

I find the cause of the calling at the stern of Mahana in the water.
She is covered with snorkeling equipment and called Kim.

We have a chat with each other.

She in her snorkeling equipment in the water and me in my underpants on board.

She is taking care of the reef. Counting fish for the "Reef", an environmental protection organisation.
    For many years now.
Behind her diving mask, she kindly asks for permission to tie their dinghy at "Mahana" during the next days for their counting work. She tells me, that I am using the buoy, they usually use, when they are on Bonaire.
I am just above the best reef of Bonaire ))))
Sure they can tie their dinghy to "Mahana".

    She is from monohull "Gabriella",
30 years living on their boat.
Her husband 35 years for now.

She invites me to some public lecture of her friend Carmen about reef fish at this evening on Bonaire. I will visit.

Beautiful meetings you have while circumnavigating the planet.
