Travelled out of Osaka to Nara once the capital and important city centre. Visited Kofuku-ji home to the Golden Hall. No photos allowed inside. This temple was impressive due to its expanse green in front.
It is one of the oldest Buddhist temple in Japan. Like many temples it has been rebuilt due to fires, wars or deterioration. Today a national heritage site and an important religious center.
The second site we visited was the Todai-ji Temple. The Todai-ji building was completed in 751 when Nara was the capital. It has been rebuilt a number of times since. It is the largest covered wooden building in the world. The great that it houses is the largest sitting Buddha in Japan.
