    Tokyo then and now

    Weather notwithstanding, we tried our best to explore as many Tokyo neighbourhoods as possible on foot. There is just so much that you miss if you only go point-to-point on the subway. The area around the Imperial Palace was beautiful, manicured, green - but lacked a certain charm. There was not much of the ancient culture or history that came to life, nor was there too much that was strikingly Japanese about the grounds or visible buildings.

    We wandered over to check out the fountains in Wadakura park next - completely by chance - and the kids had fun jumping around on the stones between the fountains. We also caught some pretty views of Tokyo Station from our lunch vantage point, and enjoyed a walk along the Sumida. The mosaic mural along the water really stood out as being rather unique, both in terms of materials and artistic style.
