Mindo

Today we travelled into the Andes to the cloud forest and magical town of Mindo. The town is really small, clean and beautiful, we are delighted we decided to venture here for a few days! The mountain air is so fresh and clouds keep rolling in, it's very mystical!
A short stroll out of town and there are lots of trails to waterfalls and birdwatching areas. We decided to try one of the birdwatching platforms as it was getting late and we didn't want to venture too far (sunset is 6pm and sunrise is 6am everyday in Ecuador...like clockwork). There was an amazing guide that gave us coke bottle lids filled with honey water, as soon as we stretched out our hands so many tiny little hummingbirds flocked to us to start drinking!! There were so many different species (Ecuador has 40% of the world's hummingbird species) and he was great at telling us the names of them all. The kids could have stayed for hours but it was getting dark, we promised them a return trip before we leave town.Read more
