Day 27: Feast of St Joseph

    March 19, 2018 in Malta ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Well its not all sunny and blue sky in Malta. Today started off as a cold wet and windy public holiday. Grace, myself and Julie took the bus to Valletta then onto Mdina and Rabat, for the Feast of St Joseph. A colourful procession through the streets of Rabat with a Marching band and lots of 'feasting' stalls of traditional Maltese sweets. The main procession took place in the evening where a statue of Joseph was carried through the streets from one church to another.
We visited the Catacombs of St Paul's which are a warren of burial chambers cut into the rock underground. Mdina is a beautiful walled city but proves to be bit of a wind tunnel with its high walls and narrow streets. Took refuge from the wind in Fontenella's restaurant which looks out towards Mosta for some delicious cake!
