    Outbound Flight

    May 29, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

We arrived at the airport at 6AM for our 8AM flight to Dallas. The boys were excited for their first flight and did great!

  • Chillin’ at DFW

    May 29, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 93 °F

We spent 7 hours at DFW! Purchasing day passes for the Admiral’s Club was a lifesaver. Plenty of room to sit comfortably, sleep, and good food, although Rick refused to try to the BBQ! Loaded up and headed on our final leg to Anchorage. It was a LONG flight (6 hours), but the boys were troopers and did wonderfully. Rick sat further up in the plane with extra leg room.Read more

  • We Made It!

    May 29, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 63 °F

FINALLY! We made it to Anchorage!! We were ready for an early take-off before the bathroom on the plane needed to be re-programmed, so we had to wait on a technician to come re-set the toilet! The flight was long and less than ideal, but the boys did great! We arrived in Anchorage shortly after 9PM (1PM EST). We met up with our Turo host, went to a nearby hotel, and received an orientation on our Sprinter van then headed out to Wasilla. By the time we did a quick Wal-Mart stop and made it home for the night, it was around midnight (4AM EST), which means we had been up for 25 hours!Read more

  • Abby’s Cottage

    May 30, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

We spent our first 3 nights at Abby’s Cottage surrounded by horse farms in Wasilla. The Sprinter van was a wonderful choice for loading and unloading luggage and people. Colt named it Denali because it’s so big!Read more

  • Hatcher Pass UTV Adventure

    May 30, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

Rick, the boys, and I adventured up towards Hatcher Pass in a side-by-side with SnowHook Adventure Guides. It was another beautiful, sunny day. Rick made sure to get us wet and muddy! In between the mud puddles and river crossings, the road covered us in dust. We even found some snow to play in. We all agreed that this was a great time! And as Colt said, “The best first day in Alaska ever!”!!Read more

  • Talkeetna Air Taxi

    May 31, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

This was the most amazing, awe-inspiring adventure on our trip so far! We did the Grand Denali Flightseeing tour with a Glacier Landing. Our guide Melissa was phenomenal and truly transformed this from an expensive tour into a once-in-a-lifetime experience!! Denali was visible in all her glory, and we flew around her and also had incredible views of Mt. Foraker, Mt. Hunter, and Ruth glacier. We saw base camp loaded with tiny little tents and climbers the size of ants beginning to make their way up the mountain. The size of the mountains and rock faces were really incomprehensible. At times it felt like our wings would brush the side of the mountain but in reality we were over 2 miles away. Giant ice crevices below us that were hundreds of feet eep looked like tiny cracks. The end of Ruth Glacier is known as a ‘Green Glacier’ because a forest has developed on top of the moraines although there are still several hundred feet of ice below.Read more

  • Talkeetna

    May 31, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

Today we became members of the 30% Club!! Denali was out in all her glory. It was a beautiful day without a cloud in the sky. We ate lunch at Mountain High Pizza Pie, and I had my annual gluten-free pizza (reindeer sausage with peppers)! We all had pizza except Rick, who had a calzone. The food was fantastic! We stopped in a few gift shops and got ice cream bars from Nagley’s. Lastly, we visited the Riverfront Park. There was a small pop-up store under a tent near the park, and Rick was able to find a hand-forged custom knife from a local craftsman. It was a beautiful (HOT) day!Read more

  • William’s Reindeer Farm (Palmer)

    June 1, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

The visit to the Reindeer Farm was very thing we expected but so much more! We were able to feed and pet so many animals- reindeer, moose, alpaca, bunnies, yak, and highland cattle. We also saw pigs, Rocky Mountain elk, baby reindeer, and turkeys. And we had a blast playing in the Rollie Pollies!Read more

  • Begich, Boggs Visitor Center

    June 1, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

We stopped by Begich, Boggs Visitor Center and Portage Lake on our way south to the Kenai Peninsula. Great exhibits and beautiful lake still with lots of ice. The boys were a little silly after being in the car for so long!Read more

  • March Lake House (Nikiski)

    June 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 50 °F

After 4 long days, we were ready for some down time. We enjoyed coffee with beautiful views of the lake. The boys tried a little fishing, and then we went for some canoe rides. Although it was another 80 degree day, there was a nice cool breeze coming off the lake.Read more

  • Kenai National Wildlife Refuge

    June 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

A quick stop by the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. The center included some nice exhibits on the animals in the area, and then we enjoyed a short walk down to the lake. The mosquitos were the size of birds and kept us moving fast!Read more

  • Soldotna Visitor Center

    June 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

A quick visit to the Soldotna Visitor Center in search of a new lovey for Colt. His Turtle was left in Wasilla (it will be mailed home). There is a replica of the world record salmon. It weighed in at 97 pounds; however, experts say it would likely have been over 100 pounds had it not rode around in the back of his truck for 7 hours! The hostess was so kind and fun to talk to sharing tales about Alaska and recommending places to visit. We walked the boardwalk (metal grating) on the Kenai River. In a few weeks when the salmon run starts, it will be shoulder-to-shoulder people “combat” fishing along this area.Read more

  • Celebrating 50 Years!

    June 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

Enjoyed dinner at Louie’s Seafood and Steaks celebrating Mom & Dad’s 50th Anniversary! The food was delicious and plentiful! We brought home leftovers so that we could save room for dessert. Dad had the King Salmon, Rick and I had the Captains Platters with halibut, scallops, and jumbo prawns. Of course, Rick substituted the prawns. His was panko-style, and mine was sautéed. Mom had sautéed jumbo prawns. They had the BEST green beans cooked in bacon and onions!! Colt had chicken tenders and Barrett spaghetti. They were so well-behaved and grown up. I couldn’t have been prouder!! For dessert we shared a molten chocolate lava cake and raspberry cream brûlée. Barrett had moose tracks ice cream (is there a more appropriate Alaskan ice cream?), Colt had vanilla, and Rick had apple crisp. It was a wonderful evening!!Read more
