    Holder

    March 5, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 88 °F

So mad that Mattie slipped his harness and leash on our walk this morning. Didn't notice till we were almost back to camp so I backtracked 1/2 mile and couldn't find it. Couldn't walk any farther cuz I knew I would be out of juice after 3 miles. I'll have to look for it tomorrow!
Took a 35 minute drive south to check out Silver Lake State Forest Campground. Thought it would be nice to be on a lake next year, but there are no waterfront lots and the walk to the beach is too far. The sites near the beach have no shade and it's wide open. Think we'll stick with Holder.

    Laundry Day

    March 6, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

Found Mattie's harness and leash on our walk this morning. He must have gotten stuck just before we took our break. Got Back to the trailer and chatted with the veteran next door and his wife then gathered laundry and headed out to do a couple of loads. Laundry took 2 hours, got back to the trailer and got Mel to go out to dinner. What a shit show! I wanted to do Rib Eye at Stumpknocker's, they were closed. 😡 Walked around the corner to the Salty Dog and they were closed too. Decided to go to Sonny's BBQ, missed the street, couldn't get a close parking spot!!! Thankfully, we had Rich, a really nice waiter. Mel wanted the sampler so I just ordered a brisket sandwich and they're queso & chips and everything was really good!Read more

  • Day 15

    Holder

    March 7, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 73 °F

    Coffee, walk, then breakfast.
Pulled the mattress off the bed and fixed the base. Some of the screws were broken and the pi333stons weren't working because the frame was all loose. All fixed now and it's easier to lift the mattress to get to the storage.
Walgreens didn't have Mel's Norco filed when we went for dinner last night so I had to make another trip to town. Finally hit Beall's on a 10% off Tuesday and bought 3 Life is Good T's and a hat, a pair of shorts and another pair of Sketchers!
Bought a new shower head for the handicap stall here. The leaky one was driving me crazy and getting the floor all wet. Love my new shower dress!
Tomorrow we'll start putting a few things away to get ready to pull out Thursday at 1:00.

    Holder

    March 8, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

Early walk today on a cool breezy morning. Saw a poor beetle trying to roll a turd uphill. After breakfast I started to put away loose items around camp and decided to clean out the trailer's storage area. Moved all the mechanics tools to the left side and opened up the right side for storing all the things on the patio; ground mat, chairs, table and cords. Lots of room now with unneeded items pushed to the middle. Got sweaty and dirty so took a quick shower before heading out to dinner at the Salty Dog.
Dinner was delicious with a generous slice of prime rib, a gigantic baked potatoe and cauliflower and broccoli with a cheddar cheese sauce. We only ate half and took the rest home for dinner tomorrow night. We were pretty full, but just had to go around the corner for ice cream since we haven't gone in the two weeks since we've been here. Super tired and sleeping by 8:30.

    Holder to Ross Prairie

    March 9, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 54 °F

Feel asleep last night at 8:30 so I was awake at 4:30 a.m. I've been sleeping with the heating pad on my back and reach a point where I just can't get comfortable and need to get up.
Chilly this morning with a Whip-O-Whill and turkeys singing in the background. I sent Pepper back to bed cuz he was restless and whiny outside. I have to say that the dogs having been really good with being on leash and wireless fence. They bark a few times when a dog walks by and Pepper throws a fit when we walk past Blackie (neighbor's dog). They are also well behave on our walks, staying pretty close to me when they're off leash. Pepper is a little more adventurous while Peanut sticks right by my side.
I was packed and ready to pull out early but we sat around and waited til 12:00. Dumped the septic and saw there was a problem with one equalizer bar. Tried to fix it but Mel needs a different bolt. Decided to go to a hardware store in Hernando. Got the bolt and decided to go to Citrus Hills and I went into Walmart while Mel fixed the equalizer. Had a hard time getting it up. Pulled into Ross Prairie and were not impressed with the Park. Pull thru lot right next to the road with no room for the dogs to roam while tired. Set up and expando was going to hit power pole so had to undo everything and move 6'. We were both exhausted and grumpy 😠

Mel sat at a picnic table with Mattie & Ramsey while I took a walk with Pepper & Peanut to find the Spring. It was right behind where Mel was sitting, but all dried up. Song m Stopping at Lowe's to get some 2x4 to raise the step back at camp.Read more

  • Day 19

    Stumpknocker's

    March 11, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Not much happening today. Went for our walk and then talked to a woman traveling alone who was born in Germany. Husband worked for Volkswagen and got offered a job over here. She told us about the original Stumpknocker's restaurant, which is just 5 miles down the road and said we should go for dinner. We went early at 4:00 and so glad we did. The restaurant looked like a dive but sat right on the Withlacoochee River so we took a table out on the patio. I got the prime rib and it was a slab with a salad, potato, and green beans. Mel had the fried grouper and everything was absolutely delicious. Took home half of my meal for later.Read more

  • Day 20

    Ross Prairie to Holder

    March 12, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

I was up early so I took the dogs for their walk and then started putting the small things away. It was actually morning so Mel decided to stay in and have his coffee so I was able to put away the mat and chairs and took the trailer off the jacks so we were pretty much ready to hook up and roll. Got out of Ross Prairie at 11:00 then swung into Winn-Dixie before heading to Holder. We had the combination so we pulled into the campground at 1:00 and waited for the person in Lot 8 to leave. Tried pulling in and the ranger came over and said we had to totally leave the park until 3:00. Decided to go to Cinnamon Sticks for brunch and oh my God was the food ever delicious. Mel got his usual biscuits, gravy and eggs. I decided to have the cream cheese stuffed French toast with Bananas Foster. OMG! They came with a bowl full of bananas and pecans smothered in brown sugar and butter. It was so good about I think I'm going to die from a sugar high!
Pulled into our Lot Number 8 and got set up quickly. Went to take a shower and saw a man with a prosthetic leg. stopped and talked to them and they are from Ottawa, use to raise cattle. Showered and went to bed not too sore.

  • Day 22

    Pontoon Day

March 14, 2023 in the United States

Up early and had my coffee and took my walk on a cool 55° morning. Trying to figure out what to wear for our pontoon ride today. Left camp at 11:00 and went to m&j's motel. Gathered our gear and went to river adventures for our 12:45 rental. Woman Inside said we had a few minutes since our pontoon was out so we had our gear ready and we're waiting for them to come in. The dock hand was standing around and I thought he was waiting for the other people to come in but he was just waiting for us to board LOL. Jerry drove and we just took a slow Cruise out to the ocean taking in the sites then back to the springs to relax until we had to return the pontoon. Tried to Anchor but the anchor wouldn't hold in the grass so we ended up going back a little early. Back to the motel to freshen up and then over to the Freezer for dinner. We all ordered one behind the other but they must have lost Marianne's ticket because we waited and waited for it to show up. She ain't no shrimp and I went to the bar three times trying to get her order. They finally realized they had lost it and we got her shrimp just before we left. Was a wonderful day and I am tired from all the fresh air.Read more
