Ushuaia - fin del mundo 🇦🇷

Our journey from Punta Arenas through the Magellan Strait was smooth, and we arrived ahead of schedule in Ushuaia, which is also known as the southest city in the world and therefore "the end of the world".

As with Punta Arenas, the shore excursions offered by the cruise were far out of our price range (at least for us 😅), so we decided to explore on our own. Our first stop was the Tourist Information Center to ask about Tierra del Fuego National Park, which was our top priority.

To our surprise, the entrance fee had skyrocketed within a month: from free to 35,000 ARS (~€35) and now 40,000 ARS (~€40) per person, per day. Seriously?! And it seems this pricing trend is the same across all of Patagonia. 💸

Not willing to pay that much for a day hike, we chose to hike the nearby Martial Glacier instead. It only required a taxi ride to and from the trailhead, and the hike itself was free.

The hike was marked as 2 hours 30 minutes, but we managed to reach the viewpoint in just 1 hour 10 minutes. Along the way, we crossed several streams and even two small snowfields – a real treat! 🥰 At the top, we enjoyed our packed snacks with a stunning view. 👌🏻

Back in town, we headed to the ship. Now it’s time to get ready for the main highlight of this cruise! ❄️

Die Fahrt von Punta Arenas durch den Magellan Kanal war ruhig und wir kamen überpünktlich in Ushuaia an, die die südlichste Stadt der Welt ist und auch gerne als "Ende der Welt" bezeichnet wird.

Hier war es das gleiche Spiel wie in Punta Arenas. Die Ausflüge vom Schiff sind (zumindest für uns 😅) unbezahlbar und so entschieden wir auf eigene Faust etwas zu unternehmen.

Wir gingen ins Tourist Information Center und erkundigten uns nach dem Tierra del Fuego Nationalpark, welcher unsere Prio 1 gewesen wäre. Leider wurde von Argentinien innerhalb von einem Monat entschieden die Preise für den Nationalpark von 0 auf 35.000 (~35€) und dann auf 40.000 (~40€) Argentinische Pesos anzuheben. Geht’s noch?! Pro Person und pro Tag. 😳 und das ist scheinbar in ganz Patagonien so - kann ja spannend werden für unsere nächsten Stops Ende Dezember und Januar. 😅

Da wir nicht bereit waren so viel Geld für eine Tageswanderung auszugeben entschieden wir uns den nahegelegenen Gletscher Martial zu erklimmen. Dafür benötigten wir lediglich ein Taxi hin und zurück - der Eintritt hierfür war umsonst. 🙃
Also starteten wir die Wanderung, die mit 2:30h angegeben war. Der Weg kreuzte einige Male einen Fluss und sogar noch zwei kleinere Schneefelder. 🥰 Nach 1:10h waren wir am Aussichtspunkt angelangt und, Vesper war natürlich am Start. 👌🏻
