Antarctica - the 7th continent II 🇦🇶

Sometimes you wake up and think, “This can’t be real life.” That was Day 2 for us, waking up slightly snowed in a stunning bay called Port Lockroy. From November to March, a British research team is stationed here – yeps, voluntarily! 3 of the 5 team members got on board to tell us more about their daily tasks and research, but their main goal was to get a hot shower and eat from our buffet. 🙃

In the afternoon, we cruised along the Gerlache Strait: more whales, more penguins, and icebergs so perfectly placed they looked staged. For the night, our captain found a patch of ice-free water – not an easy task down here – and we spent the evening gently cruising around.

Manchmal wacht man auf und denkt: „Okay, das ist jetzt echt wie im Film.“ So ging’s uns an Tag 2, als wir morgens leicht verschneit in einer Bucht namens Port Lockroy aufgewacht sind. Hier ist von November bis März ein britisches Forschungsteam stationiert – yeps, freiwillig! Um uns ein bisschen was über ihre Arbeit zu erzählen (und hauptsächlich um mal wieder warm zu duschen und um unser Buffet zu plündern 🙃), wurde das Team an Bord geholt.

Nachmittags ging’s weiter durch die Gerlache Strait: noch mehr Wale, noch mehr Pinguine, und überall Eisberge und schneebedeckte Landschaften, die aussahen, als hätte jemand sie perfekt inszeniert. Für die Nacht suchte unser Captain eisfreies Wasser – keine leichte Aufgabe hier unten – und wir sind dort entspannt rumgeschippert.Leer más
