• A day at the Beach ⛱️

    March 25 in Poland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Today we caught the train to Sopot. A beautiful sunny day (15°). After scaling 134 steps we got to the top of the lighthouse only to discover it's a chimney as well as a lighthouse. Historically it was used for the baths built in 1903, they needed an exhaust but did not want to spoil the seafront so build a dual purpose building. Today it discharges fumes from the gas boiler room of the rheumatology hospital built in this place. We then took a stroll along Europe's longest pier, 511.5 metres. After purchasing some hot mulled wine (weird but it's everywhere) we sat and watched the many pigeons play on the beach. A stroll into town had us finding out about Wotjek the bear and discovering the beautiful town that is Sopot, extremely picturesque, clearly a very affluent area. Back into Gdansk we take a stroll through the town before retiring back to the apartment for a well deserved rest!Read more
