  • Day one of slowly deep freezing

    November 26, 2023 in Hungary ⋅ 🌙 -2 °C

Had an amazing day discovering Pest. Its bitterly cold and the wind is high but we powered through. Dropped our cases off at the apartment and went straight to the Hugarian Opera house to check it out before booking our tickets for tonight performance by piotr beczala accompanied by piano. Amazing 👏 We then went to the Christmas markets a d bought a warm kinder drink. Think it was rum...it was warm! We then went for a walk parliament building along the danube, picking up the Shoes on the Danube bank memorial. We then finally walked with the wind to the Great Synagogue which is the largest in the world. On the way back we picked up a yummy Chimney cake. After a coffee and warm bath we hit the Christmas markets for dinner and then to the amazing evening performance at the opera. Finishing with a pint (330ml) in the neighbouring bar. After the 0130am start I am ready for bed!!Read more

Then walking over the Margaret Bridge we walked a little of the Danube to visit the Parliament building. Which unfortunately was closed for official business. We took an evening walk to see the sites of Budapest lit up before hitting Aldi for dinner 🤣Read more

  • Our last full day 😪

    November 28, 2023 in Hungary ⋅ 🌧 5 °C

Another full day!! So far in total 26 miles walked!!
We started off with Heroes Square, then off to the absolutely stunning Vajdahunyad Castle - stunning architecture designed for the 1900 millennium celebrations. Its represents more than 20 famous Hungarian buildings a mixture of renaissance, gothic, baroque and romanesque styles. Bloomin stunning!! We then walked the rooftop of the Enthnographical museum. A walk around the botanical gardens and park was wet but wonderful. On our way back home we popped into a ruin bar (rude not to) and marvelled at their use of space and items destined for the bin! We finished off the day with a stunning meal at Beerstro 14. Highly recommend!Read more

  • Last day blues

    November 29, 2023 in Hungary ⋅ 🌙 0 °C

A relaxing morning walk to Buda for the last time over a bridge we had not previously been over; Szabadsag hid, we were closer to the beautiful Liberty Monument but could not get a good photo. We then went for a walk around the Grand Central Market. A trip to Budapest would not be complete without trying Langos. However I got only a couple of bits as Brandon loved it so much he ate with Gusto.
We then washed it down with coffee and cherry beer in the For Sale pub famously known for the thousands of notes pinned to the walls and ceilings. We then had a lovely stroll in the sun before getting the airport bus. We finished our journey with Pastries bought from Central Budapest at the airport 🥰
