All Good Things Must Come To An End

    August 26, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

The time has come, it's our last morning together and we must head back to the Calgary Airport. The drive back was pretty quite. We were all feeling pretty tired and a little bummed that this long anticipated trip has come to an end. After almost a year of planning, we are finally here. We made incredible memories to share with family and friends, exploring one of the most beautiful parts of Canada. 5 National Parks, 14 Trails, 40 Km Hiked, 4553 ft in elevation climbed all in 7 fantastic days. Hard to sum up the highlights as everyday brought something new and different. What a privilege it was to spend this time with family. We will never forget this incredible journey. Until next time...Read more

    Lake Louise, AB

    August 25, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Had to stop for some classic pics of Lake Louise. It was definitely busier than earlier this morning, but we managed our way and still got some great shots. From there we planned to go to Lake Moraine, but the road was blocked off as the parking lot was full. Gonna have to wait until next time I guess. We were all a little hungry, so we decided to head to Banff for some lunch and souvenir shopping.Read more

Last night fun in Banff and Canmore

    August 25, 2017 in Canada ⋅ 🌙 7 °C

After lunch, we headed to see the Cave and Basin in Banff, but unfortunately, they were already closed. We drove over then to the Bow Falls which is right behind the Banff Springs hotel. Quite a beautiful spot, plus it gave us a chance to see the iconic castle looking hotel. From there we strolled the streets of Banff doing a little more shopping before heading to our reservation at Eureka Banff Escape Room. The escape room was extremely challenging but we did manage to make our way out, only about 5 min over the given time to escape. Not too shabby considering this room only has a 12% escape success rate! We stopped for a group photo, then headed back to the vehicle to drive back to Canmore. On the drive back, we drove up Tunnel Mountain Road to stop at the scenic viewpoint of the hoodoos. Once in Canmore we ate at a great place called Tavern 1883. The service was great and the food was awesome. Next we headed back to the condo to share our photos and great memories from this amazing trip. Sad that it has all come to an end, but we are all feeling pretty tired. Off to bed we go as we need to get up early for our flights home tomorrow!Read more

The decent from the Lake Agnes Teahouse

    August 25, 2017 in Canada ⋅ 🌙 5 °C

The decent down from the Lake Agnes Teahouse did not disappoint. We took the advice of the waitress at the teahouse who told us of another route down the mountain which meets up with mirror lake and joins back to our original trail. This trail took us past the infamous Beehive which also provided beautiful views of another mountain tucked in behind beehive. The trek was steep, but worth the extra effort. The one benefit was no crowds! We were the only ones on this trail which made it quite enjoyable. Once at mirror lake, our trail joined back up with the main one which had horses on it and tons of people. Avoiding the horse poop was difficult, but we were so happy to be finally descending this mountain. Encouraging those climbing that it wasn't to much further!Read more

Lake Agnes Teahouse at Lake Louise, AB

    August 25, 2017 in Canada ⋅ 🌙 5 °C

Our final full day has come! We woke up extra early to ensure we were able to get a full day in today. Our first stop was Lake Louise, where the planned hike was to the Lake Agnes Teahouse trail. As we made our way to the trail, we followed the path along the magnificent Lake Louise. The lake was extremely busy with tourists, but still spectacular to see this popular sight in person. We decided to head on over to the trail and take pics of Lake Louise after.

The trail was a steep incline all the way up and steep decline all the way down. Amazing viewpoints along the way made for some nice resting points. After finally reaching the top we stopped for some great tea at the famous Lake Agnes Teahouse. The teahouse has no electricity and most of the dry goods are shipped in my helicopter in the spring for the entire season. All the fresh ingredients and supplies are carried on the backs of those who work at the teahouse everyday. The hike took us about 1.5 hours to climb, the employees of the teahouse do this trek with supplies on their backs anywhere from 35-45 min - quite impressive!

    Canmore / Banff, AB

    August 24, 2017 in Canada ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

We arrived at our final destination of our trip, Canmore, AB. After checking into our condo rental, we made our way back out to head to Banff to explore the town and surrounding area. We started off by driving to Lake Minnewanka, where there are usually bear sightings. Hoping we would get a chance to see another bear, we started to hike the trail surrounding the lake. We met a lovely couple from the Netherlands who asked to join us on our hike. They too were hoping to see some wildlife, but unfortunately, nothing was to be seen. It started to rain as we headed back, so we decided to call it quits and drive to Banff for dinner. We found a place on the 2nd floor of a building where the windows opened up completely to the street. Quite beautiful. After dinner, live music began which was quite fun to listen too. From there, we were all feeling pretty beat so we headed back to the condo for an evening of rest. Tomorrow morning was going to be an early one as we planned on driving to Lake Louise to do the Lake Agnes Teahouse trail.Read more

    Sunwapta Falls, Jasper National Park

    August 24, 2017 in Canada ⋅ 🌙 8 °C

A little further up the road, we stopped at Sunwapta Falls. Another great example of the power of a waterfall as it continually pushes through the rock slowly eroding even further. The weather was starting to get a little worse so this was a pretty quick pit stop for us. Next stop...find a place to have our picnic lunch. Surprisingly, there were a limited number of places to stop for a picnic, after much driving and grumbling stomaches, we finally found a place to stop at Num-ta-jah lodge. The lodge had picnic tables set up out front along the lake where we set up lunch. After we finished eating, Josh treated us to hot chocolate from the lodge. A great treat after this brisk lunch outside. From there we headed to our final destination, Canmore, AB.Read more

    Athabasca Falls, Jasper National Park

    August 24, 2017 in Canada ⋅ 🌙 8 °C

We checked out from our cabin, and started our route to Canmore. The plan today was to visit Athabasca Falls, Sunwapta Falls, and find a spot we could stop for our picnic lunch. The weather was moving from one extreme to the next along this drive. We had temps as low as 6c, all the way to 18c, with some light rain showers in between. With varied weather like this it was evident we were still in the glaciers!

Athabasca Falls was a nice stop. A nice little hike to stretch out our legs and take in the spectacular views of the falls. Coming up close to these falls you really get a sense of the power behind them. Josh put the falls to the test by throwing in a log at the top only to see the log get swallowed up in seconds, never to be seen again. What an incredible force.

    Whistlers Mountain, Jasper National Park

    August 23, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

After taking the tram up to the lower summit of Whistlers Mountain, we then hiked to the upper summit. The trail looks easy, but after starting the hike up, you quickly discover the air is a lot thinner at 7424 ft above sea level. After several breaks along the way, we finally reached the summit at 8080 ft above sea level where we had some fun taking pictures and exploring the top of the mountain! The tram was packed going up, but nobody climbed up to the summit with us, so it felt as though we had this mountain to ourselves - what an incredible experience! The sun was starting to set, so we started to make our descent. Next stop...supper! We decided to pick up a pizza at a recommended pizza place in town, and had to pick up a takeout order of the poutine we had the other night...it was that good that we had to have it again! We took all the food back to the cabin to share in some good laughs and stories from our day. This is going to be a great trip to remember!Read more

    Jasper Tram up Whistlers Mountain

    August 23, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

We made a quick stop for lunch in Jasper before heading to the Jasper Sky Tram. We were hearing from the locals about this bear that had run up a tree in town, so we went on the hunt to find it. Found it! Parks Canada had the area taped off as they were monitoring the bear. The bear was a brown black bear and appeared pretty big in size. It was pretty hard to get pictures as he was way up in the tree, but it was pretty cool to see. He apparently had been around town for the last 2 weeks feeding on the fruit trees from the yards in town.

After we headed on over to the Jasper tram to then hike to the summit of Whistlers Mountain.
