    Cai Be Vietnam

    September 9, 2018 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

The Mekong delta region of over 40,500 square kilometres encompasses a large portion of southwestern Vietnam. The size of the area covered by water depends on the season. The region comprises 12 provinces, I am never going to remember the names so I will leave them out.

The Mekong Delta has been dubbed a "biological treasure trove". Over 1,000 animal species were recorded between 1997 and 2007 and new species of plants, fish, lizards, and mammals have been discovered recently in previously unexplored areas, including the Laotian rock rat, thought to be extinct.

The tender can get us close to the shoreline, so I can get many photos of the fishing boats, ladies collecting the hyacinth stems to sell at the markets as well as the boats going up and down the river.

It is lovely being on the river but it is brown because it is the rainy season and the water is coming down from the hills.

Views of the villagers and their homes are seen right along the riverbanks.
