All packed and ready to drive to Orange. The weather according to BOM has improved a little. However still might be putting up the tent in the rain.

  • Coffee

    January 7, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

It was a tad wet and foggy driving through the mountains. On the plus side the rain has now stopped and as Coffee was required McDonald's Lithgow was the place. Ready to hit the road and head straight to Canobolas Caravan Park. Let's hope the rain has not arrived.Read more

  • Canobolas Caravan Park

    January 7, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Well not much to say about this caravan park. Very basic and quite wet and muddy from the rain yesterday. Still a few things to get our glamping set up for the week.We managed to get the tent set up before the storm arrived.Read more

  • The Storm has Arrived

    January 7, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

We had most things set up and decided it was time for a drink. Frank also popped around to see our glamping set up and have a drink. It was great to see him. Not long after he arrived the storm also arrived. A few minor issues but the biggest is the camp site is getting very wet and now we basically have a large puddle in the annex on the floor. The joys of camping. Fingers crossed it does not get windy. We had dinner in the annex and feet sitting in puddles. Now in the tent very dry and listening to thunder and the rain. The internet is dreadful so no games on my phone tonight.
Looking forward to a dry day tomorrow.

  • Canobolas Caravan Park

    January 8, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Well we survived the night. It rained most of the night but we stayed dry inside the tent.
In the morning the sun was shining so we could start to dry out the annex floor and finish the ropes on the annex. Whilst this caravan park is not the best it is only $35 per night so really cannot complain. On the positive side they have the best showers, very hot, clean and excellent water pressure.
Breakfast finished and trip into town is the next agenda item.

  • Local Markets

    January 8, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Just a short drive into town are the Rotary Markets so of course we had to visit. Gold coin entry and a raffle ticket but no luck we did not win. The actual Markets are quite small but that may have something to do with weather and Covid. There is plenty of room for more stalls. The stall had lots of local produce and we did make a number of purchases. Caramlised Wine Balsamic infused with Thyme, Fig and Cardamom Desert Syrup, Lemon Grass Chilli Sauce, Lemen Tumuric Almond Paste and Pate. Some of these we also can get in Sydney at the Orange Grove Markets.
Then our usual coffee stop before heading back to the tent to drop off our purchases.

  • Cook Park

    January 8, 2022 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 22 °C

After our quick pit stop at the tent back out for a visit to Cook Park. This park is quite small but boy it has some incredibly large trees. It was a very picturesque park with heaps of things to see. A little bit of history on this lovely picturesque park. The park is 4.5 hectares named after Captain James Cook and is laid out in traditional Victorian design. Whilst walking through the park you could really sense what it would have looked like with ladies and gents promenading through the park. It has a duck pond, avery, rose garden, glasshouse. It was created in 1873.Read more

  • Afternoon Day 2

    January 8, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

After sitting in the sun for a few hours playing my game while John worked out the agenda for the next couple of days it was time to jump back in the car and drive out to visit Frank at his new home for afternoon tea.

A short stop by Kmart and Coles and back at the camp site most things seem dry. Let's hope it stays that way. Time for drinks and a cheese platter while I prepare a chicken green curry for dinner. This is what camping is meant to be like sitting, drinking and eating. What a great life living the dream can be.
John is now setting up the projector for a movie after dinner.

  • Lazy Morning and Sightseeing

    January 9, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

A lazy morning sitting around the camp ground. Sun shining and looking like a nice day. Then it decided to rain not much but enough for the ground to have puddles. Sun shining again so sightseeing was the next agenda item. We drove to Millthorpe and walked around in and out of the shops. Millthorpe was established in the 1800's and the whole village is classified by the National Trust. It was quite pretty and not busy. Then we drove to Carcoar. Along the way we stopped at Carcoar Dam and the Windfarm lookout. The dam area was very pretty but the windfarm actually looked better near the turnoff. Carcoar town apparently is the town that time forgot and as far as we could see probably still to be forgotten. We did not even stop although the pub looked very busy. The town is also classified by the National Trust because of the large number of preserved 19th century buildings. They must be scattered through out the town as we only noticed a few. Now time for coffee so back in the car and a drive to Vittoria to check out the Beekeepers Inn. Great recommendation Lesley. The Cafe was excellent, the museum had some interesting information and lots of honey for sale. We were unable to taste any honey so we decided on the Patterson curse which from the description is very sweet. We like honey drizzled over a brie and thought this would suit our tastes. Back on the road and heading back to Orange to rest at the camp-site.Read more

  • Lovely relaxing afternoon

    January 9, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

The afternoon was lovely lots of sun which allowed us to relax and do nothing. Well not really I caught up on some computer work naming all the photo's from the last few days. I did have a break and made a cheese platter using honey from today's adventure and the pate from the markets. As it was a BBQ for dinner a salad was required and fruit salad for desert with my camping special jelly. I even managed to get some washing done. Dinner done and dusted now for some Netflix. Tomorrow will be more Hopwood Adventures so stay tuned.Read more

  • Orange Wines

    January 10, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Tourism hats on today with a glass in hand. We visited 3 wineries, 2 in particular were very nice. The wine is a lot lighter than the Hunter Region which was great as we only required easy drinking white wine this excursion to the wineries. I basically tasted every wine they offered no surprise there. The reason is they had a cover charge so it was not worth paying for John as he was driving and Frank does not drink much and he did not require any wine. The wineries in Orange are only a very short drive from town. So close in fact that for lunch we drove back to town before heading out to the 3rd winery. In between we took a short drive up the mountain to Mount Canobolas, from the lookout you can see Orange city. The view could have been better but a thing called National Park and trees made it a little difficult to see the view. Mount Canobolas is actually an extinct volcano. Still with our tourist hats on we visited Emmerville Cottage which is where Banjo Patterson grew up.Read more

  • Relaxing at the Camp Ground

    January 11, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

After a busy day yesterday, it was a relaxing day at the camp ground. We did not sleep in though as large trucks moving red clay dirt into the caravan park woke us at 7am. The day basically was a day to catch up on some computer work which was great and do nothing. The morning was sunny, it became a little overcast around 12 and around 2 a storm came by so we sat in the tent watching Virgin River on Netflix. Fortunately the rain only lasted a few hours.
In the evening we met up with Frank for dinner at the local Indian restaurant, the food was very nice but I forgot the photos of all the dishes.
On the drive home the main street was still all lit up from Christmas and looked very pretty.
Goodnight now to watch a movie on Netflix.

  • Leaving Canobolas Caravan Park

    January 12, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

After a sleep in and breakfast we decided to do a complete pack and leave today rather than half and leave tomorrow the weather is just so unpredictable. We did not want to pack up in the rain or a damp tent with the very heavy morning dew. It takes us a few hours to pack up but all done and ready to hit the road back to Camperdown Castle.Read more

  • On our way home

    January 12, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

On the road and heading home. 1st stopover was for a quick lunch and drink at a rest area just out of Orange. Next stop Lithgow for coffee and then Camperdown Castle. We had a lovely time in Orange catching up with Frank and seeing what Orange has to offer. The caravan park was not the best but manageable and the rain was annoying but we are old hands at this camping caper and we can cope with anything. Until the next trip goodbye and hope you enjoyed our little trip to Orange as much as we did.Read more
