  • Dinner

    Sep 30–Oct 3, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Dinner and drinks. Our meal was very ordinary, not your usual flavours of Thailand. We did know from our last visit that the food was basic but hoped for a change.

  • River View Jungle Rafts

    October 1, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

River Kwai Jungle Rafts Resort is on the River like our Resort and is owned by the same people. This resort offers an authentic floating accommodation experience similar to ours but the main difference is that it is an ecology conservation concept, the entire Hotel does NOT use electricity but rather utilizes traditional kerosene lamps at night, maintaining a true eco hideaway in nature.

The Hotel staff mostly live in the Mon Village which is right behind the Hotel.

  • Mon Village

    October 1, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

The Mon still live a traditional, simple life. They make almost no use of electricity, and the little bit they use is from solar power. The village has been slightly adapted for tourism, with the people selling traditional skirts and foods to their visitors. We walked through the village to the Golden Rock, the temple, the school and walked past a number of traditional houses on poles, to keep them safe from the water during raining season.Read more

  • Sai Yok Yai Waterfall

    October 1, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

Sai Yok Yai waterfall, known by local residence as Nam Tok Khao Pung, has been widely famous for a long time. The name Khao Pung which means crumbled mountain is derived from the natural occurrence of the waterfall, eroding limestone cliffs to create steps that descend down in many levels to the foothills and finally falls down a 15 metres high limestone crag.Read more

  • Tham Lawa (Lawa Cave)

    October 1, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

These caves are the earliest known in Kanchanaburi. They were discovered with ancient human skeletons in the cave. It is presumed that this may have been a prehistoric human habitat. The cave entrance is quite small, while the inside is very large. The cave is divided into many rooms with different characteristics.

What made this an interesting tour was our guide, she was only 7 years old. She did not speak any English so Lid, our tour guide translated.

We had to walk up over 100 stairs to the entrance. John could not manage these, so he remained with the driver. Inside the caves were lots of bats and it was difficult to walk around. They are not like our Jenolan Caves but still quite interesting and worth the visit.

Another interesting fact about these caves is that they are directly behind our resort. However, due to the terrain and John's knee it was not possible to walk back to the resort, so we drove for about 20 min and then back on a boat again for 10 min trip to the Resort.

Another full day today. Tomorrow is going to be about relaxation as we will be remaining at the resort.

  • The Wat Mahathat Ayutthaya

    October 3, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

Wat Mahathat (Temple of the Great Relics) is located almost right in the center of Ayutthaya. Apart from being the symbolic centre where the Buddha's relics were enshrined, Wat Mahathat was also the residence of the Supreme Patriarch or leader of the Thai Buddhist monks. The temple is believed to be built during the 14th century A.D. (the early Ayutthaya period).

The main prang collapsed during the Ayutthaya period, but was restored. It collapsed again in 1911, so only the foundation of the main prang remains at present.
