    Victoria for 3 weeks

    We are going to take a holiday in this great country of ours this time around.

    We are travelling the coast road to Batehaven to visit Richard and Bronwyn.

    Sunday 14th will be Lakes Entrance, 15th Sorrento and the 16th very early in the morning we take the ferry to Queenscliff.

    Have you guessed the first leg of our trip? The Great Ocean Road. On the 16th we will stay in Apollo Bay. The idea is to go the full length of the Great Ocean Road to see the remainder of the 12 Apostles, only 8 remain. We thought we should see them before they completly disappear.

    17th we stay overnight in Warnambool and on the 18th we head to Soverign Hill for a winter in July Celebration.

    19th we will be in Kyneton for a week. Kyneton is in the Macedon Ranges. On the 26th we drive for a few hours and stay at Numurkah which is near Shepparton for another week.

    We have not realy done that much research of the areas we are staying other than apparently there are some good wineries.    Weiterlesen

    Heritage Bakery Milton

    Lunch stop. We always stop here on our way to Richard and Bronwyn or on our way home. What made this a little different was it was free. I will explain. Last visit to R and B we stopped in for lunch and the food was horrible. We chose lamb and rosemary pies and it was full of pumpkin and a tiny bit of lamb it was yukko and as we all know John does not like pumpkin. I did not complain on the day instead I wrote
    unfavourable review on trip advisor. To the owners credit he contacted me and apologized and gave me a $25 voucher for our next visit. Today was our next visit. John had heritage steak pie and I ordered the lamb and rosemary, it still had pumpkin but tasted much better and looked more like a meat pie than a veggie pie. I will update trip advisor accordingly. But we may try Hayden pies next time which is just a little further down the highway.    Weiterlesen

    Batehaven

    On the way to Batehaven

    Batehaven is an easy drive from Sydney and our lovely friends Richard and Bronwyn live there. So on the road trip to Victoria it made total sence to visit them and stay overnight. We enjoy catching up with them, as we don't see each other that often. There was heaps of chatting over a glass or two .

    After a few drinks and catching up we went out to dinner. Forgot to take photo's silly me.

    Thankyou Richard and Bronwyn always great host's. A shame we could only stay 1 night.

    On the road to Lakes Entrance Victoria our destination today.

    Lunch stop in Bega and driver change .

    Now in Victoria

    Change over of driver in Cann River 1 1/2 hours to our destination. Now listening to Elvis.

    Oh no we now need to find petrol station the flat tire warning light is on. Could be the big bump John hit earlier or the one I hit just before change over. However we had been having an issue with the warning light before we left. We know we can drive 100k with the warming light as we have run flat tyres . Hopefully it is nothing.Weiterlesen

    Lakes Entrance

    Arrived safe and sound just a very basic apartment but has all we need for 1 night

    Unpacked a couple of things then into town for fish and chips for dinner.

    We originally thought we would go for a walk but it is raining so I guess watching a movie might be in order after dinnerWeiterlesen

    Sorrento

    We have arrived in Sorrento. Lunch by the water, a walk in the Town Centre and afternoon coffee. Most of the coffee shops were closing but we found one inside Country Road. The store was originally the post office. The coffee was very nice and so was the lemon slice.

    Now to the Hotel for checking in. It is cold and windy outside so a nice cosy room looking over the water will be lovely.    Weiterlesen

    All checked in, not a bad room but at double the price of last night's. Not sure it is worth it but it is a pretty town and the room does have a wonderful view. It would be lovely sitting outside taking in the view if it was not so cold.

    John went out to get some groceries for dinner as there is not much open on a Monday night, I am going to use my Kmart pie maker in the room and make pies for dinner.

    Lorne first stop

    John will drive today as our destination is only a few hours away Apollo Bay.

    Well finally at Lorne. John decided to follow Google maps which took us via the countryside rather than the ocean go figure. Anyway all good we have checked out the shops and purchased a few bargains from the op shop

    Time for lunch, hot chips in fresh bread, yummy. We even had a special friend join us for lunch.    Weiterlesen

    Nestled in the Bay

    We are staying in and Airbnb tonight. It is very cute. 1 load of washing on and drinking hot chocolate.

    The Airbnb is like a large fancy shed it has corrugated iron sheets as walls. Very quirky indeed.

    7.00 and time to start dinner a d settle in front of the TV. It is wet,cold and miserable outside so no walking again tonight.    Weiterlesen

    Cape Otway Lighthouse

    First tourist stop this morning was a 12 km detour off the Great Ocean Road. It was very windy up at the lighthouse the wind was 63km and we were told that it can get up to 130km. We certainly were glad we did not visit when is was that windy.

    Cape Otway Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia and considered the most significant. The lighthouse was built in 1848, and is known as the ‘Beacon of Hope,’ . It sits 90 metres above the pristine ocean of Bass Strait.

    Hundreds of lives were lost along this shipwreck coast – a sad but fascinating history which led to the building of the Lighthouse on the cliff's edge.    Weiterlesen

    Back on the road

    Back on the road driving through the Great Otway National Park. The trees are huge and the wind has created a bit of a mess all over the road with fallen leaves, bark and branches.

    Music arrangement for this morning is one of our bargins from the op shop in Lorne. It is a So Fresh CD - Summer Hits of 2002.

    The Great Otway National Park covers rugged coastland, beaches and the mountains of the Otway Ranges. Waterfalls dot the park, including the 3 cascades of Triplet Falls. Boardwalks lead through temperate rainforest at Maits Rest. The 1848 Cape Otway Lightstation perches on cliffs overlooking Bass Strait. Great Ocean Walk leads through the park to the Twelve Apostles rock formations.    Weiterlesen

    12 Apostles

    We have arrived at the 12 Apostles, cold and windy but no rain. There are only 8 remaining now and glad we visited before erosion from the wind and sea result in the collapse of further stacks.

    The iconic golden cliffs and crumbling pillars of the Twelve Apostles are 7km east of Port Campbell. They are protected by the Twelve Apostles Marine National Park which covers 7500ha and runs along 17km of stunning coastline.

    Spectacular arches, canyons, fissures, gutters and deep sloping reefs make up the environment below the waves. Wild and powerful waves of the Southern Ocean constantly pound the coastline which has shaped the area into what you see today.    Weiterlesen
