We started our journey down there from the trailhead (parking lot).
The hike from the trailhead was nice, but the view from the observatory was our first 'wow'.And then we looked 'up' -- this is an optical phenomenon called a 'solar halo'. Our first!1So we had a little fun with it. 😄The area looked arid, but it was rather interesting. The overview w/ Simon in the background. That area upper right is where the prior pic was taken.Same upper area mentioned earlier, but better view of the Mt John observatory domes.

One more day in the Tekapo area -- one more hike! And this one had an unexpected (solar) surprise!

So we had a little fun with it. 😄Very cool [Michelle]
