• Cefalu

Today, Jack was once again nursing a hangover in bed, but thanks to my early night, I was up and ready to get out and see the last bits of Palermo. The main thing I wanted to see was the Regional Archaeological Museum Antonio Salinas. Unfortunately, being a Monday, it was closed. This is one of those things you forget about when travelling. You completely lose track of what day it is, and then suddenly realise that half the attractions you wanted to see are closed. It was particularly disappointing because I had heard some really good things about the museum. Still, there wasn’t much I could do about it, so I hopped back on my Lime scooter and spent the morning wandering around Palermo, calling my parents and seeing whatever parts of the city I could reach.

I did this until Jack eventually woke up, at which point we decided we should make our way to Cefalù. We had heard some great things about it, so we figured it was worth making the trip. It was about an hour by train, and when we arrived, we headed straight towards the beach. Unfortunately, we didn’t have heaps of time because Jack had slept in, so we figured we would wander around the town and see what we could find. Jack had been told about a really nice beach about an hour’s walk outside of town, so naturally, we decided to walk there. Once again, Jack had somehow managed to lead us into the middle of nowhere. The walk itself was still pretty cool, and it was nice to see some of the quieter parts around Cefalù, but I would have much rather spent the time actually relaxing on the beach or exploring the town itself. By the time we finished the walk, we had run out of both time and energy to make it back to the beach, so we headed towards the train station. When we arrived, we discovered that our train had been delayed by 45 minutes.

This gave us a bit of a dilemma: we could either make a very quick trip back to the beach or sit around and wait for the train. After the amount of walking we had just done, neither of us had much energy left, so we decided to sit and wait. When the train eventually arrived, it was absolutely fucking packed. People were practically climbing over each other trying to get on. We knew there was another train arriving about five minutes later, so we figured it would be worth waiting and trying our luck with that one instead. We positioned ourselves much better this time and waited.

Of course, the second train was delayed too. Eventually, though, it arrived, we managed to get on, find seats and finally head home. By this point, Jack was exhausted from several big days of drinking, and I was exhausted from a full day of walking around. We grabbed some food and headed home. Given that we were leaving for Croatia the next day, this was our last chance to get a proper Bolognese, which I still hadn’t had during the trip. Naturally, we took advantage of the opportunity. We were absolutely starving, and when the food finally arrived, we basically inhaled it before heading straight home to bed.

Tomorrow was going to be another big travel day, but I was actually looking forward to it. After so many hectic days, I was excited for a boring day where I could finally sit down, organise myself and try to get my shit together.
