    Day 4 - Skógafoss

    March 12, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

A little drive further took us to Skógafoss - a waterfall situated on the Skógá River in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded seaward (it is now at a distance of about 5 kilometres from Skógar), the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometres, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.
We couldn't quite believe our luck when we arrived - after driving through drizzle, the clouds parted and we had glorious sunshine which brought out a double rainbow! The tourists subsided and made way for a quick hand to hand in the spray of the waterfall. We decided we wanted to get a bit closer and took the go pro in, getting thoroughly soaked when a big gust of wind covered us in spray. It was amazing!
