Definitely wanted to kayak when i was down here so saw this trail when researching and people said it was pretty well marked through mangroves. Was just off the side of the main road. Was surprised to see another jeep on the side of the entrance when i got there which meant someone else was out there. Ended up seeing a couple in two kayaks about 2 miles in. Was a little nerve wracking at first as it is very narrow kayak through mangroves and grass. Wasn't sure what i would do if i came right up to a gator on the side. They don't really bother me as they are pretty docile but it is mating season and if you came upon a nest with a mother guarding then its a different story. Did see a couple small ones in more open water areas but was pretty good distance from them. Ended up going out about 3.5 miles before turning around. It was a nice peaceful, easy paddle though and really enjoyed it. Would have liked to see a little more wildlife. There was a area by the campground that they said had manatees sometimes and crocs but i hadn't planned for tat one or researched the path so didn't want to do that one.Read more
