• Taking the ‘eco-friendly’ route 🚙🪴

    5 augusti 2024, Rumänien ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

With Dracula not showing his face, even in the dark tunnels I got some lunch and then hit the road again. Google suggested I take a route that was 3mins longer but would save me 4% fuel and that this new route was ‘eco friendly’. Eh, why not. The route it took me was effectively the ‘back way’ and was quite scenic. Only one photo (because I was driving) but it started off surrounded by thick forest along windy roads through the hills. Very natural and beautiful woods. Then went across mainly farmland where the harvest was in full swing with lots of tractors bailing up the hay.

It was a slow drive for about 2.5hrs but much less stressful than the main road. I pulled over in one small town as there was a spot to take a photo of a stalk in its nest atop a power pole. There were heaps of these the other day and some today. I just don’t know how they don’t end up as fried chicken that close to the power line.

As I got closer to Sighisoara it was back on the main road. I’ve decided to just drive with the flow of traffic, as the speed limit changes so often but no one seems to follow it. Google alerted me to a speed camera, which looked like it was installed in the 90’s and firebombed many times since.

A few castles stood watching over on nearby hills. “Carl - you can’t stop at every castle, keep driving!” I told myself. I have arrived at my swish old hotel in central old town for the night. Looking forward to exploring this town that Conde Nest Traveller describe as one of “The most beautiful small towns in Europe”. Big call. Will find out soon.
