    Keppel Sands

    June 16, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Benita is flying up to Rockhampton tomorrow, so we’ll stay at Keppel Sands for a couple of nights. Small park, not crowded, camped overlooking the bay. Caught a few mud crabs, they were males but unfortunately about 1-2 cm too small. Angela got nipped when picking one up- drew blood. When tipping them back one lost a claw, so we cooked it up - tiny portion but delicious. Might try again sometime. Staying at Burnett Heads caravan park & going on a Lady Musgrave island and snorkelling tour. Too cold for me, just the wind is giving me an ear ache , Angela & Benita have braved it though. They saw some nice coral and colourful fish. Our next stop was Burrum Point in a national park for a couple of days. The road in was bumpy and deep sand. We later discovered that it was better to drive along the beach. Had another go at crabbing and this time caught a legal sized male, so we are now camping at Inskip Point dining on mud crab, prawns and oysters. Dropped Benita off at Maroochydore airport and stayed the night at Angela’s sisters place at Burleigh Heads.Read more
