    Titanic? Really?

    Yesterday in France ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Yesterday we had an opportunity to go to a Titanic museum. I politely passed. I don't need to see the Titanic when I'm on a freaking boat. And I'm glad I didn't go because last night was hell. We got a warning over the intercom that s*** was going to get serious. They closed the elevators, swells were 2 meters and the wind was 50 knots. The boat shook rattled and rolled. All night. Very little sleep by anyone. I'm sure. To the point where we were almost knocked off the bed a handful of times. It was not fun. Thankfully, I think I was too busy panicking to be sick.Read more

  • Bordeaux

    April 26 in France ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

In Bordeaux France today. First thing we see when we dock is a brocaunt so of course we had to go check it out. Tons of antiques that it's impossible to get home but, it was a feast for the eyes. Also took the hop-on hop-off bus for a tour of the city. Weather was absolutely beautiful.

Lindsey, of course was up to her normal hijinks. She got up early and went down to breakfast this morning and left me to get in the shower. I turned the shower on and cold Jets immediately pummeled my backside. I let out such a loud holler that I was just sure I was going to have people pounding on our suite door to see if I was okay. Someone once told me that paybacks are hell.

  • Casrto not Bilbao

    April 24 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

We were in Castro today. It's a fishing village about 45 minutes out of Bilbao. We had a guided tour that of course didn't let us go into the pretty Church or even stay still around it to take very many pictures. Mom and I snuck in and then got separated from the pack. Hehe

Mom and I both decided that we would be more than happy to go back to Castro and if we needed to pick a spot in Spain to live , because you know we've seen everything in the last 12 hours, we would pick Castro. It reminded us both of the Oregon coast. Green, open, hills and windy roads . It also smelled the same, had very similar vegetation. The only thing missing were wild blackberry bushes.

We snuck into a couple shops that we weren't supposed to cuz apparently you're supposed to stay with the tour guide. We were making it quick though. Yes we obviously found our way back to the boat. Everybody was really sweet as we stumbled through English/ Spanish trying to find the right sizes. Lots of charades and giggles on both sides.

We then went into Bilbao. Bilbao was boring, didn't really care for it much at all. It didn't help that we got into town right during their siestas. 2 hour lunch breaks, closing everything down except for the bars and restaurants. After much walking and confusion we were able to find our shuttle and make it back to the boat. Mom promptly hopped in the hot tub and popped some Tylenol.

We will be in Bordeaux France tomorrow docking around 2:30 p.m.

  • Birds

    April 22 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

There is a large window that goes up and down in our seating area. Mom and I have been giggling wondering if a bird would fly in when we have it down, but we thought it would be unlikely. We were wrong. Mom was taking a nap when a bird flew in. I started to holler, jump up and down and panic just a little bit. Thank goodness it flew the width of the room and then flew right back out the window. If it had flown out into the hallway, I have no clue how the staff would have gotten it out. It also pooped on my bed on his way. 41-year-old hollering for her mother while flapping her own wings, and Mom trying to get out of bed to figure out what the hell was happening. Fun times.Read more

  • Porto Portugal

    April 22 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

The dock was 45 minutes away from the city and our tours started at 1:00. So most of the day was spent waiting for the tour. We were in a tuk-tuk again. Couldn't see anything from the bars and tarp lid of it. Didn't even bother to take pictures. There was also a wine tasting which Mom and I were less than interested in. Kind of a wasted day, honestly. It is now 6:30 at night and we are leaving Port again. We will be in Bilbao Spain tomorrow morning.Read more

  • Overn Overnight Sea

    April 21 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

We did not sleep well last night. Around 10 there was a storm, lots of rocking. It was also hot, so little real rest to be had. Got into Port about 6:00 a.m.

  • Tuk Tuk Masage

    April 21 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Motorized tukuk with all of us today. 3 hours. Up and down Lisbon. Stopped at a couple over looks for pictures. Melinda, Doug and I then explored a little bit in what is apparently the oldest bookstore in the world. At least as far as the Guinness book of world records is concerned. We then walked back to the ship. Sail tonight to Porto.

Lisbon was destroyed in the 1700s by a earthquake that started a lot of fires. The fires were then put out by a tsunamis. Tens of thousands died. And a lot of the town had to be rebuilt. When dating buildings. Here. It's either before the earthquake or after the earthquake.

Tuk massage the title of this footprint comes from our tukuk guide. He was warning us that the cobbled streets will give us quite a jarring.

  • Out to Sea

    April 20, North Atlantic Ocean ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

Whole day was at Sea. Not as sick as yesterday but tired since I've been on anti-nausea sleepy meds. I did leave the cabin three times though! Saw everybody for a few minutes during high tea. I ventured out for, where we met a couple that are from Boise. He was born in Lewiston. It's weird.

Our window that overlooks the ocean can be lowered to about half. I had it lowered maybe 6 in. A pigeon tried to fly in. Thank goodness it didn't make it. But where the heck has the pigeon been hiding? We're in the middle of the ocean. Quite literally.

There was also a social get to know your neighbor gathering tonight where you meet people in your hall. It was loud. Mom and I hid in our cabin. Lol

After we left Port for the first time I was sick and in bed all that night and most of the next day. We docked yesterday around 3:00 and I was able to bounce right back. Today. Mom and I explored the city on a motorized tuk tuk.

We will be heading back out to see for the rest of the night and most of the day tomorrow.

  • About a Boat

    April 17 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

The boat's name is the World Navigator. There's a little less than 150 guests and about as many staff members. Apparently it's almost a one-to-one ratio.

The very top deck number seven has a playground that Hazel would absolutely drool over. AKA, a helicopter pad, a walking jogging track with various exercise equipment welded into floor, it's all open air. ( Pictures with captions explaining Hazel potential hazards will follow ) The deck below that, that you can look down into from deck 7 has a small pool, two hot tubs and various lounging spots surrounding it, as well as a bar and ice cream trolley.

    We are on deck 6

Deck 4 is where most of the action is. There is a theater, a couple big sitting rooms or lounges, a small coffee type restaurant that's open most of the day. The pecan pie is freaking amazing. This is also where the huge dining room is along with the front desk.

This particular ship spends half the year in Europe during the summer and in the winter it goes to Antarctica. It takes 26 days to get from Antarctica to Europe. They do this route two times a year. It's only staff that are on board. Staff have better hours when there are no clients, there are scheduled events throughout the journey, and they're able to use the big client dining room.

One of the videos below is of a little yellow boat right up against our boat. This is the harbor Master. He hops in and hops off like literally jumps from one boat to the other. When we leave the harbor he hops on and does the actual driving of the boat. Same when the boat leaves. But he freaking jumps from one to the other. It's nuts.

The rooms are very comfortable but the beds are hard as a rock we had ask.formattress toppers. Nancy had to get two. That they even had that as an option blew my mind. They are also incredibly narrow. Like dumb narrow. I'm thinking that kidlets crib was about that wide.

Mom and I are having a lot of fun arguing over the thermostat. She likes to keep everything closed and the heat on. I like to have the windows open to keep it cool. So whoever's in here alone tends to get the room to the right temperature until the other one comes back. Lol

Buffet style, breakfast and lunch. At night. They have a couple options but it's four course meal. Of course. Very small portions. And most of it. Things mom and I have never even heard of. Most of it's not bad. But I don't think I'm sophisticated enough to understand why people are going crazy over it.
