We smashed this city in one day seeing all the sites we wanted to and more. The Brandenburg gates; checkpoint Charlie; the Berlin Wall. But by far the monument and museum to the murdered Jews of Europe was an emotional three hours.Les mer

  • Day 33: Vienna

    16. mai 2024, Østerrike ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

So much to do and we didn’t get it all done but we were always staying another day. Walked to castle ruins in the nature park where we stayed. Train to Vienna. Belvedere palace, Beethoven statue and market. Also had a great meal at Belvedere and at Salm Brau brew house.Les mer

  • Day 34: Vienna to Salzburg.

    17. mai 2024, Østerrike ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Spent another wonderful day in Vienna be it drizzly and cool. Visited the Beethoven museum and the Mozart monument. Met a wonderful lady on the bus who told us about the spectacular parliament building so did a street walk. Back to Mödling and enjoyed one of the most spectacular drives through the alps. Sleeping under them tonight.Les mer

  • Day 35: Salzburg

    18. mai 2024, Østerrike ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Spent a fantastic day in Salzburg. Sound of music tour was everything I wanted it to be. Our guide was superb and that is so important. Markets. Mozart museum. Castle wall walks. Tired and we hungry finished off with the best Italian meal at Timeless cafe.Les mer

  • Day 36: Salzburg to Villach

    19. mai 2024, Østerrike ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

This was gonna be a lazy do laundry day but Grah found a cable car up the mountain range instead near the small town of Grödig. The cable cars take 45 people and both times we were lucky to be the last two so we were by the doors for a great view. Had a hike, lunch and back down. Traffic jam on the freeway so we got off at Golling and spent 4 hours hiking to waterfalls and stopping at pubs. Beats doing laundry.Les mer

  • Day 37: Villach to Ljublijana

    20. mai 2024, Østerrike ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Clean up day and laundry today. It was a public holiday anyway so literally nothing open. Had lunch at a pub followed by a city walk. Went through the mountain range and discovered a post Cold War bunker museum. Took a wrong turn ended up back in Austria then got back to Slovenia via another route that landed us unknowingly at Mauthausen concentration camp. Camping in Ljubljana but probs moving straight on. Not a good feel.Les mer

  • Day 38: Ljubljana to Zagreb

    21. mai 2024, Kroatia ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Wasn’t feeling the vibe in Ljubljana so onward to Croatia. Stopped in a town very proud of its heritage called Brezice. After a late brekky we walked the town including a stop at the castle museum and water tower. By the time we got back it was ripping rain. We played cards in the van for a bit before eating again at the restaurant and heading to Zagreb. Caught the train in and had a great evening. What are all these people doing out on a Tuesday night ?!?!?!Les mer

  • Day 39: Zagreb

    22. mai 2024, Kroatia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Went to the botanical park. A little bit of shopping and yes Graham bought something! Investigated “old town” and was enjoying it so much we stayed another night. Back to “our favourite” Ramon place for dinner second night in a row. Bars near our camp spot were open and the evening weather was delightful. Never mind everyone was exercising and we were drinking beers! Roller blades are huge here.Les mer

  • Day 40: Zagreb to Zadar

    23. mai 2024, Kroatia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Stopped at a town for groceries and had an extended walk around. Took the lazy way to Zadar and discovered a bikie bar for a drink and an hour later a restaurant in the middle of nowhere serving lamb and pig on a spit. Food was decicious. Then fell over the most amazing town of Radstroke. The whole town is one giant waterfall. Ended the evening blown away by Zadar, the coast and the Sea organ.Les mer

  • Day 41: Zadar to Nin

    24. mai 2024, Kroatia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Luv this place. Finally a proper swim. Bloody stones everywhere. Grah was a superstar on the 10m platform but unfortunately perforated his eardrum on entry. I was lucky to find the hottest female doc in town who jabbed him in the butt! Visited Nin island. Found an extremely remote spot to sleep but apparently a great place to put your boat in. Turns out not as remote as we thought.Les mer

  • Day 42: Nin to Sibenik

    24. mai 2024, Kroatia ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Morning hike across to an island. Water had lowered overnight and we found an old church. Shock. Morning swim then a lazy drive to Sibenik. So far wineries have been a bust. Awesome lunch at some beachside town before settling on Biograd Na Moru. Chilled for ages before watching the sunset at Sibenik.Les mer

  • Day 43: Sibebik to Zadar

    26. mai 2024, Kroatia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Didn’t like this camp spot so much. A little noisy. Climbed up to St John fort. This also got us entry to Fort Barone. This had an AI guide which was cool. Laundry day followed by parking and sunset back at Zadar the same place we stayed night one. One of my fave places.Les mer

  • Day 44: Zadar to Lokva

    27. mai 2024, Kroatia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

The day was beautiful. Beach time. We swam in front of the Falkensteiner club. Less crowded. A little stony but we found some clear patches. Ate burgers at the Beach bar. Best onion rings and chicken wings. More swimming then the coastal drive on our way to Vienna. Stunning drive. More swim time in a cute town but very average dinner. Watched the sunset at LokvaLes mer

  • Day 45: Lovka to Palazzolo dello Stella

    28. mai 2024, Kroatia ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Continued the great coast rd. Had a drink (and ice cream graham) at the Senj castle museum. Had a swim at Kraljevica- Carovo beach. Had to stop at a town as weather had turned to rain and hail/snow as we entered Slovenia. Lunch at Hrpelje. Crossed the border to Italy and drove through Trieste. Ffs it was huge and a scary drive. Took the coast road toward Venice. Found our first and spectacular winery called La Di Anselmi.Les mer

  • Day 46: Palazzolo Della Stella to Venice

    29. mai 2024, Italia ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

On our backstreet drive to Venice we passed more wineries. I spotted a huge market at Latisana. We bought some gear but the best was the fried prawns and squid. So light and perfectly cooked. We parked at an official campsite for our 2 night stay in Venice cos I needed a proper shower. Took the boat taxi to Venice and did all the usual things. Rialto bridge, the Basilica, food, wine, shopping, selfies, gondola, live music by night in St Marks square. Big day. Only spoiled by the hour long tram delay past midnight.Les mer

  • Day 47: Venice Day 2

    30. mai 2024, Italia ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

What a difference a day makes. Cold rainy and miserable today. We visited the da Vinci exhibition and areas of Venice we didn’t explore yesterday. After an early dinner at the Aperol bar we were done.

  • Day 48: Venice to Bologna

    31. mai 2024, Italia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Enjoyed our last proper shower. Shopped and the clouds were black. Managed to avoid most of the rain. Ate lunch at a big green hotel in a suburb of Ferrara. It was so nice we each had three courses. I wasn’t keen on grahams eel. Take that as you will. Parked in Bologna and bussed to central. Immediately we didn’t like the feel of this place. Eventually found the more likable part of “old town” and had drinks in the square listening to live music.Les mer

  • Day 49: Bologna to Cervia

    1. juni 2024, Italia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

We wanted to leave Bologna ‘cos we didn’t like it but instead decided to investigate the countryside chasing Castles. Two down travelling through dangerously small roads. I made Graham hunt for the one I wanted to go to which turned out to be a monastery. Excellent views of the city. Had an awesome dinner on the way to the beach town of Cervia. Looked around the area once parked and thought we were in Cony Island. Not my cup of tea. May only stay for a quick swim on the beach of a thousand umbrellas. Later that night a bazillion teenage kids rocked up for what smelled like schoolies. We got out of Dodge real quick and ended up sleeping up the road at Ravenna.Les mer

  • Day 50: Cervia to San Marino

    2. juni 2024, San Marino ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Went down to the beach to see 40,000 plus different umbrella stands along the beach. Thousands of people walking along the beach but I was one of 5 actually in the water. Drove to San Marino. Caught the funivula up to the castle. Much walking and later drinking. One of the best spots in the universe.Les mer
