  • Croatia cruise - Day 23

    27 settembre 2023, Croazia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Our boat left Sipan at 5.30am to get to Mljet, we were making up for lost time over weekend. We had half day here, it's a National Park, did a tour which included a boat ride to little island. Wasn't anything stunning to be fair. Then we headed to Korcila which was stunning!. Beautiful port town where we found a beach swim at & then wandered through town to find somewhere for a drink & dinner. Heaps of boats docked in for night so loads of people around.Leggi altro

  • Croatia cruise - Day 24

    28 settembre 2023, Croazia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

We left Korcila early & headed towards Havr. We stopped for a swim stop nearby & then water taxied into Havr as the boat couldn't dock until evening. We did a walking tour of the town late afternoon. Most interesting thing was the Benedict nuns who make the lace out of the agave plant. It's the only place in the world it's made. Also the nuns who make it have pledged a vow to live in the building in Hvar for their entire life, they can never leave. The town was full of beautiful yachts & loads of people with lots of money. Very touristy but great fun people watching.Leggi altro

  • Croatia cruise - Day 25

    29 settembre 2023, Croazia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Last day of our 7 day cruise. We left the party island of Hvar & stopped at Bol on the Island of Brac for a 3 hr swim stop. It was one of my favourite places, had a real beach feel about it & was very modern & clean. Of course the beach was also amazing. Then we headed to Split after lunch back to where we started. We walked up to the lookout above the town, was worth the effort for the view & the beer at the bar half way down was very appreciated. Then we found a bar to watch the All Blacks which was a real bonus as they're football made over here. Great finish to the dayLeggi altro

  • Split & up the Coast

    30 settembre 2023, Croazia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

After leaving our yacht we spent the morning going through the Palace in Split which was built by the Romans, it was really impressive & so pleased we went through it. The little church especially was beautiful, inside they were setting it up for a wedding that day. The baptistry had a ceiling with faces of every emotion, common in Roman times. Visited a market & got some supplies, then we headed up the coast on the local roads. Was really cool to get away from the tourists, found a lovely spot for a swim & bought some olive oil from an old guy at road side stall. He couldn't speak any English but his oil was BEAUTIFUL. Dinner was a massive plate of chips & schnitzel! Lucky we'd had a Greek salad for lunch🤣.Leggi altro

  • Croatia road trip Day 27

    1 ottobre 2023, Croazia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

After staying the night at a little place called Posedarje we headed to the Paklenica National Park which is in the Velebit Mountains. We did a 5km walk including a steep climb to a lookout. Was a good workout & the scenery was so different to our National Parks. Then had swim at beach to cool off before heading inland 2 hrs to our accommodation, near the Plitvice Lakes (tomorrow's adventure). We went over the Velebit mountain which included a 5.5km tunnel, very impressive.Leggi altro

  • Plitvice Lakes & off to Slovenia

    2 ottobre 2023, Croazia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Today we got to the Plitvice Lakes early as we'd heard it gets real busy once the tourist buses arrive. So we were on the boardwalks before 8. Was a great walk around both lakes, & the national park is set up real well. It's a world heritage site & gets 1.5 million visitors a year - the most visited place in Croatia, just to give you an idea! So we were just leaving late morning as the crowds were arriving. Then we had a 4.5 hr drive to Slovenia to Lake Bled where we are staying for our last 3 nights in Europe.Leggi altro

  • Slovenia

    3 ottobre 2023, Slovenia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We arrived in Lake Bled on Monday night. On Tuesday we wondered down to the lake & took the Ponte boat across to the island, very relaxing boat trip getting rowed across which took 20mins. The boats are the same design used in this region since 1600's. In the afternoon we hired some e-bikes & spent a few hours exploring all the little alpine villages in the area. Next day was a bit wet so we browsed the shops & then did a cooking class making the famous vanilla cake. This was at a local lady's house & she had a great set up as she also does other classes. Her son is in NZ at moment ski instructing at Mt Hutt so she asked lots of questions about NZ. Overall Lake Bled reminded me of a mini Taupo & we thought Slovenia was a very clean country with lots of pride in its appearance unlike some other places we've been. Off to Dubai Thursday morning, goodbye to Europe.Leggi altro

  • Dubai - Day 1

    6 ottobre 2023, Emirati Arabi Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

We arrive in Dubai about midnight as our flight was delayed. Next morning we ventured out briefly late morning to check out the temperature but nothing could really prepare us for the 40 degrees & humidity. After reassessing we decided to brave the beach. It had to be done🙂. The water was about 30 degrees so was like a bath so not very cooling but there was a breeze & a few waves. After a quick dry off (no lying on the beach here!) we caught the bus back to the hotel. They even have air-conditioning in the bus stops here🤣. About 4pm we heading to the Dubai Mall, hard to explain the opulence & how everything is over the top. 1200 shops & every possible brand. Very expensive but interesting to browse. The light/fountain show was pretty cool. We spent 5 hours here, not quite sure where that time went!Leggi altro

  • Dubai - last day of trip!

    7 ottobre 2023, Emirati Arabi Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 37 °C

We headed off to the desert at 7am for an early safari & camel ride trip. Was perfect as it was only mid-30's most of the morning. The desert was vast & very cool to see it up close. Then late afternoon/evening we did a tour of the old part of Dubai & the gold & spice souks which was interesting. We visited a house that made carpets the traditional way using an old weaving mill that was 150 years old. Our tour guide was excellent & we learnt heaps. Finished off the day with a dinner at Arabian tea house, great way to finish our trip. Ready for home now😍.Leggi altro
