    14 Mei 2024, Scotland ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

Amazing day ,the scenery has been amazing ,,good walking for 8 miles , path climbing for several hours. Had lunch picnic looking out across Loch Lomand below us. Strenuous climb down to Balmaha ,took a detour on our bottoms ,and were able to get a boat trip to an island for a few hours. Boat ride was 10mins. A lovely end to a perfect day .An osprey swooped down in front of us and caught a fish .Baca lagi

    16 Mei 2024, Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

A short walking day of 7 miles with lots of undulating woodland and Loch edged paths ,some rocky ,some very steep. Very beautiful in woods and forestry filled with bluebells ,ferns and wild juniper and other wild flowers . Constant bird song on the canopy above us .Ending up at a hotel on the edge of the Loch. Time to chill out today before our long walk tomorrow.Baca lagi

  • Day 4 Rowardennan to Inverarnan

    17 Mei 2024, Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Left Rowardennan by 8am ,we had a good breakfast ,so gave a good review after all. We knew today would be 14miles and possibly the most beautiful and the most challenging. It was both. Physically and mentally looking at your feet and climbing boulders for hours on inclines and steep slopes, walking on narrow paths thousands of feet above the Loch and other times we walked in the Loch to cool down. The temp went up to 21 degrees. Very unusual for Scotland.
Ended up at the Drovers Arms which is meant to be haunted .We are staying in a lodge, relieved about that !

  • Day 5 Inverannan to Tyndrum

    18 Mei 2024, Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

We have reached HALFWAY today!Walked 12 miles ,along rocky paths ,through forests and over gushing streams. Walked around ruin of St Filins Abbey, patron Saint of mental health. Under scorching heat 23 degrees ! It was exhausting but wonderful. 2miles before the end ,came across an Artisan Cafe and had iced coffee and cake ,other people arrived in Aston Martins and bought £100 car blankets ,we mixed with hoy poloy! The accomodation continues to be varied ,some very tired they all have good and bad points. All fun . There are two carnivorous plants in the Highland and we saw the lesser butterwort today ,the yellow leaved plant in photo,I was excited.Baca lagi

  • Day 6 Tyndrum to Bridge of Orchy

    19 Mei 2024, Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Today is a rest day ,we only walked 6miles . Walking was between mountains along a fairly level path. Unlike all the other paths so far, I didn't have to watch my feet and was able to look around as I walked. And so I spotted the other carnivorous plant ,sundew , next to the common butterwort . It was tiny about an inch high !!
Bridge of Orchy Hotel is very smart, and in a superb setting ,spent the afternoon chilling by the river.

  • Day 7 Bridge of Orchy to Kingshouse

    20 Mei 2024, Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

After a fabulous breakfast of porridge followed by salmon and scrambled egg we were soon pounding the 13 mile military path through Rannock Moor to Glencoe . It was very remote with sparse tree cover ,lots of Heather and bog myrtle. When we got to Glencoe we went to the Ski visitors centre for lunch and took a chair lift ride up the Glen Coe munro. Spectacular views and scenery, well worth the fare .It was very cold ontop and could see some snow! Cathy took ages to warm up afterwards despite putting on a coat and gloves on our return .The hotel was only 1.5 miles further on in a wonderful setting surrounded by mountains. Deer were grazing in front of hotel . Very picturesque.Baca lagi

  • Day 8 Kingshouse to Kinlochleven

    21 Mei 2024, Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Only 8.5 miles today ,stunning scenery, seemed like Switzerland. We climbed Devils staircase,a zig zag path rising to 1797ft ,the highest point on the west highland way . Boulder strewn paths made our progress slow, it must be far more challenging in wet weather. The hotel is lovely and Cathy and I each have our own room tonight.
We hope to go and see a local waterfall later.. It was over 20 degrees today !!!

The final day ,14miles over high pass the Lairigmor and undulating path through forests and over streams. Moody views of Ben Nevis. Awesome and not to be missed ,hard on the knees going up and down but so scenic. Finished up in Fort William Gordon Square for photo shoot.
This 96 mile trail has been the best walk ever so much variety every day .

  • Journey home

    23 Mei 2024, Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Today we travelled home ,but not until later in the day .
Last night we stayed at The Garrison Hotel in Fort William ,which was once a jail. We ate out at a vibrant pizza place nearby and met some interesting Americans as we all sat around long tables.
This morning went on a two hour boat trip from Fort William .we saw a white tailed Eagle soaring above us ,and lazing seals on a Blackrock.
Had a fascinating commentary and chance to steer the boat..
We were picked up at 3.30pm and driven to Glasgow by a driver who also gave us a history lesson .We drove for 2.5 hrs and we had walked all that way in 8 days .
