    After an early start to our first official vacation day (4:30 am) we embarked on our first mission - finding breakfast!     Britt Coffee Tour

    After a dreadful day of waiting on Lara’s bag to finally arrive at the airport (with no luck!) we made the strenuous decision to take matters into our own hands and retrieve the bag ourselves. It took some arguing with several airport employees but in the end we got it!

    Since we had to push back our original plans, we decided to visit a coffee factory. We learned about where coffee comes from and how many tiny beans are needed to make one delicious cup of coffee. Did you know that all coffee beans get hand picked by hundreds of workers each day? They have to fill a basket which carries up to 12kg and only receive 3$ per load!

    Our tour guides made the experience incredibly interesting and fun while we learned some more Spanglish along with fascinating facts about Costa Rican mythical creatures.    Baca selengkapnya

    Tortuguero

    17 September 2019, Kosta Rika ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

    This morning we left Heredia to begin our long journey to Tortuguero. After taking 3 different busses and one scenic yet questionable boat ride we were dropped off at our new home for the next couple of days. Hidden away in the middle of the jungle lies Rana Roja lodge which is surrounded by nature, animals and few WiFi bars. For the time being we will be staying in a small secluded bungalow along with many of our little ant friends and other unidentified creatures.
    Following our arrival, our first stop was of course the pool. We then took a water taxi into the little village of Tortuguero. On our hunt for dinner we encountered plenty of stray dogs mosquitos, and Germans.
    To unwind from a hectic day of travels, we are now slurping on a couple of yummy cocktails. Buenas noches !    Baca selengkapnya

    Tortuguero Day 2

    18 September 2019, Kosta Rika ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

    Our first night in Tortuguero was very eventful. Just after falling asleep we were awoken by a shaking hut. Which turned out to be a 5.5 earthquake - intense!
    We then had an early start to the day since we had planned our canoe tour through the jungle. During our expedition, we saw tons of residents of the Tortuguero national park. Including many different species of birds, caimans, iguanas, and monkeys. We got lucky with our tour guide since he is practically a permanent resident of the jungle himself. ‘Mono’ was born in the Jungle and spent all of his life hunting and exploring this great landscape. After collecting tons of new knowledge, pictures and sunburns we headed back to our beloved pool.
    Having spent all of our cash we made our way back into the village for an ATM only to find out the machine has been out of service for a while. What to do now?
    We went into loads of stores asking to take out cash with no luck. Finally, we were able to find a grocery store clerk who unwillingly gave us some cash. Thankfully, because we had no money to get back home.
    Tonight, we are off to see the turtles in the national park for a guided night tour. Unfortunately, no pictures are allowed. We will fill you in tomorrow!

    Catch up!

    Long time no type... time to catch you up.

    Since our last check in we had the privilege of witnessing multiple green turtles nesting on the beautiful beach of Tortuguero. We weren’t allowed to bring cameras, however we took plenty of mental pictures. Under the very starry sky, we could even see the Milky Way.
    Along with our very adorable Costa Rican tour guide Ray, we trekked along the jungle and beaches to come across a green turtle momma laying her eggs. Did you know, that the green turtle will come back to the same beach every year to make her next? The green turtle is the second largest sea turtle here.
    Within few minutes of being on the beach we saw two more turtles coming up from the sea- what an incredible experience!
    On our last day in the jungle, we decided to relax by the pool along with our new found monkey friends before heading back to Heredia the next day.
    After another long journey of boat rides, taxis and buses, we arrived back in the very raining Heredia. Here we were finally able to pick up our car- time to begin our road trip in style.    Baca selengkapnya

    First days in Puerto Viejo

    After a long drive with on and off rain showers, we finally arrived in the beautiful, secluded town of Puerto Viejo. Our hostel is located right on the beach with great people, music, and awesome food, not to forget the delicious cocktails. We spent our first night catching up with old friends and listening to questionably talented karaoke singers.
    On our second day, we explored the town on our rented bicycles and finally got the chance to clean our dirty laundry, thank god!
    We spent the rest of the day relaxing on the beach, playing in the waves, and eating lots of ice cream - what a life. In the evening we discovered our talent of building giant Jenga towers as well as improved our pool playing skills.    Baca selengkapnya

    Monkeys, Jungles and Waves

    25 September 2019, Kosta Rika ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

    Since our last update we have been keeping busy, but mostly taking it easy. One of these days we were able to visit some friends at Lara’s old work place. There we got to see several animals such as: sloths, turtles, birds and snakes as well as meet some adorable furry babies. Since this was a privilege that we only got because of our connections we are supposed to keep this on the DL - we will assume you can keep a secret!
    After our lovely encounter with the monkeys we drove up to Manzanillo. There we walked through a small national park with postcard worthy views and beaches. Here you really feel the beautiful Caribbean vibes all around you.

    Yesterday morning, one of Lara’s old friends gave us a surf lesson - Sabrina’s first time on a board! We had a great time & both did really well. Unfortunately we did not get any pictures but stay tuned, as we will be perfecting our skills and sharing some images soon.    Baca selengkapnya
