  • Day 1- Ljubljana

Spent the day exploring Ljubljana (most of it lugging my bag as couldn't get into the hostel).
Old town is beautiful and I got a great view of it from the boat tour I took and wandering aimlessly around.
After getting in to my hostel, on the recommendation of the owner, I went to the Skyscrapper for rooftop views of old town and cake. Nice views, shame about the crane. From there I walked to a graffiti area, felt a bit stabby so didn't stay long. Ended the day sat on the riverbank eating food from the bakery. A good first day.

Today started rainy so had strudel and orange and cinnamon hot chocolate at a cafe while I waited it out. Tasted good, killed some time but it carried on raining so decided to walk in the rain instead. Most of the morning was spent wandering around the castle and grounds; good views from the top of the clock tower.
For lunch, I went to a place the hostel lady recommended, Klobasarna, for jota (sauerkraut stew) with sausage, it was good. Spent the rest of the afternoon exploring little streets.
Went out for dinner, had a stew and dumplings thing, which was lovely, and gibancia for pudding, which was ok. Wandered more after eating, the river looked lovely with the reflections from all the lights and the (nearly) full moon.

Got the first bus from Ljubljana to Lkae Bohinj this morning (busses are very much first come, first served, and people get quite intense about it). It ended up taking 3 hours but so worth it. Lake Bohinj is stunning.
I walked down to my hostel (about a mile out from the bus stop) and was able to leave my bag there and grab some food. As I still had a couple of hours until I could check in, I started walking. Ended up walking the whole way around the lake. I love it (though my little toe did not like the 12km walk so much). I got back to the hostel, checked in and headed straight to the lake to read/sunbath/swim. The water is ridiculously clear. After a very beige dinner I went back to the lake, hoping to see the sunset. It was pretty but not full on sunset, but I did get to speak to Dan while I was down there.

This morning I walked 12 miles, my legs hurt. I walked up to a gorge then kept going. The walk to the gorge was absolutely stunning, the water was crystal clear and the walk took you through a bit of everything, woods, fields, mountains. I loved it. I carried on to the waterfall. Glad I started early as it was hot and a lot busier on the way down. I had planned on going to a viewpoint but at 9 miles in, and hungry, the idea of adding 2 hours to my walk didn't appeal. Had more beige food in town before finishing back at the hostel. After a bit of a breather, I hired a paddleboard and went out on the lake. It was so nice to laze around and pull up on tiny beaches.
Very tired now, but a brilliant day.

Buses. I was feeling a bit smug as I had booked a (lot more expensive) bus to take me from Bohinj to Bled this morning, with a guaranteed seat, less stops etc. It didn't arrive. It was meant to arrive at 11, I ended up getting the normal bus at 12.45 instead (for on €1.50 not the £35 I am trying to get refunded). When I finally got on the bus, I could enjoy the beautiful scenery of the route and finally made it to Lake Bled just before 2. Very handily, I got off the bus by a little shop, a toilet and my apartment. Some quick lunch then sat in the shade by the lake before I could get in. Lake Bled is beautiful, the church on an island in the middle of the lake and the castle on a huge rock overlooking the lake are both impressive, but it is so busy. It is very touristy and doesn't have the natural amazingness of Lake Bohinj. At 3, I could get into my apartment, a cute little one bed that has a river running next to it (can hear from my room) and is so close to the lake. After some chill time, I walked around the lake (6km) before grabbing some bits from dinner from the shop (it was surprisingly nice to be able to sort my own food even if it was just pasta). My evening was spent reading and talking to Dan.Read more

Stared with a lie in and breakfast at the apartment, which was needed. Then walked up to the summer toboggan run and proceeded to wait for an hour and 20 minutes for my go. Great views and it was fun (it felt a lot faster than it looks in the video).
Headed back to the apartment for lunch and to change (wrong top to be a sweaty mess in), annoyingly the shop was closed so has a weird mix of lunch. Next stop was the castle on top of a rock. Again, great views but I've got to stop climbing things in 35° heat.
Stopped by the lake for a quick swim and sunbath. Whilst laying with my feet in the water, reading my book, a lady started yelling and pointing at me. I turn around to see a snake swimming around my feet. Moved pretty quickly at that point.
Carried on my walk around the lake and up to one of the view points. It was nice to be in the trees and away from the main lake. The view was gorgeous. Finished the day with a couple more stops and some sunbathing around the lake before heading back to the apartment.

Today was very chilled, I left the apartment at 10 and spent an hour reading by the lake before getting a bus back to Ljubljana- a bust that arrived pretty much in time. The rest of my day in Ljubljana was spent largely finding different places to sit and read.
I'm staying at the Ibis Fuzzy Log, in a pod that feels like I'm in a spaceship.
Dinner was Thai food, sat on the steps by the river.
