Darwin and Litchfield National Park

Darwin ist die einzige Regionalhauptstadt, die in den Tropen liegt. Hier konnten wir uns am Hafengebiet etwas abgekühlen und haben das 'Museum & Art Gallery of Northern Territory' besucht. Hier gibt es eine Aborigine-Kunstsammlung, eine Ausstellung über den Zyklon 'Tracy', der Darwin 1974 ziemlich zerstörte und es gibt viele ausgestopfte Tiere, mit dem 5m und 780kg schweren Leistenkrokodil 'Sweetheart' zu sehen.

Anschließend gings zum 'Berry Springs Nature Park', wo man sich in einer Reihe von Quellen gespeister Badelöcher abkühlen kann.

Der 1500km² große 'Litchfield National Park' ist, wie wir finden, sogar noch schöner als der Kakadu National Park. Vor allem weil es hier viel mehr Möglichkeiten zum Schwimmen gibt. Hier gibt es wunderschöne Wasserfälle, wie die 'Florence Falls' und 'Wangi Falls' und kristallklare krokodilfreie Wasserbecken. Sehr schön ist das 'Buley Rockhole', wo das Wasser durch eine Reihe von Felsbecken nach unten fällt und man darin baden kann. Beeindruckend waren auch die magnetischen Termitehügel, die wie Kompassnadeln in perfekter Nord-Süd-Ausrichtung angelegt sind. Dies machen die Termiten, um immer mit einer Seite des Hügels im Schatten zu sein, sodass die Temperatur immer optimal ist.

Darwin is the only regional capital, which is located in the tropics. Here we could cool off a bit at the waterfront and we've visited the 'Museum & Art Gallery of Northern Territory'. Here you can see an aboriginal art collection, an exhibition of the cyclone 'Tracy', which destroyed Darwin pretty much in 1974 and there are lots of taxidermied animals with the 5m and 780 kg heavy estuarine crocodile 'Sweetheart'.

Afterwards we went to the 'Berry Springs Nature Park', where you can cool down in a row of swimming holes from the springs.

The 1500km² large 'Litchfield National Park' is in our opinion even better than the Kakadu National Park. Especially because here are much more possibilities to swim. There are beautiful waterfalls, like the 'Florence Falls' and the 'Wangi Falls' and crystal clear croc free pools. The 'Buley Rockhole', where the water falls down through a row of rockpools and you can have a bath in it, is also really nice. Also impressive were the magnetic termite mounds, which are laid out like a compass needle in a perfect north-south alignment. The termites are doing that to always have one sight of the mound in shadow, so the temperature is always ideal.Read more
