  • Flight #2 ✅

    August 24, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Well, luggage tracker tags work pretty well! We know now that one of our bags was left behind in Toronto. Luckily it wasn't anything super important - just clothes. All the important things (Wallace and I) are safe and sound! Wallace survived his first airplane ride over the ocean! On the way to QMU!Read more

  • The Move

    August 25, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

After sleeping for 13 hours, we moved from H to J Block! We got a tip about the big rolling bins and they made it a lot faster! I think we need these for every move we do, haha.

  • First Taste of Edinburgh

    August 25, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

After the move, we spent some time exploring Edinburgh! Some errands to run at St. James Quarter, a rest in the Waterstone's Café on Prince's Street (one of the best views of the Castle), had some fancy drinks at one of the rooftop bars at the Johnny Walker Experience, and then a quick stop at Wagamama for supper before the Tattoo!Read more

  • Glengoyne Distillery

    August 26, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Our first distillery tour of the trip! Glengoyne Distillery is a Highland Whisky distillery right the Highland border. Their whisky is malted and distilled on the Highlands, but matures across the road which is technically in the lowlands. It was very cool because they still do everything by hand and the process has remained the same for many, many years.Read more

  • Deanston Distillery

    August 26, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Second distillery of the day! Deanston is also Highland whisky. It is very cool because the building used to be a cotton mill! It has some kind of sad history there, but a very cool modern thing is that it produces its own electricity!Read more

  • Grassmarket Market

    August 27, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Got my favourite weekend lunch dishes at the Grassmarket Market! Yummy! A roasted goat cheese sweet potato pancake thing (I should learn the actual name of it) from the Kenyan stand, and chicken paella. Then some ice cream! A tasty stop!Read more

  • Palace of Holyroodhouse

    August 27, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Love it! Still my favourite castle/palace tour to date. There's just so much to see and take it. It's such an interesting history. We actually were able to turn our passes into year long passes as well so I can go back for free whenever I want! Yay! Maybe I'll just go there to study this term.Read more

  • Wandering the City

    August 27, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

After Holyrood, we just wanted to wander around and see things. We finished our bus tour and then got some food, fancy drinks from The Alchemist, and then wandered the Royal Mile. Wallace stopped in 3 whisky shops in like 15 minutes. It's bonkers how busy the city is, but it's also what I expected. (It's also too bad, but the bin workers are in strike, and what better leverage to use than when the city is crazy busy. It's been about a week and there is litter everywhere. It's pretty sad to see the city in this way. I hope they get the money they deserve.) We meandered our way down The Mound and then wandered into a cute pub called the Auld Hundred on Rose Street. Finally, we caught some fireworks for the end of the Tattoo, and headed back to QMU to crash for the night!Read more

  • Happy birthday to me!

    August 28, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Only one post for my birthday because we didn't really do a whole lot of different things. Just a lot of eating, drinking and shopping. (So all in all, a pretty great day!) We started the day with a a Boozy Brunch at Rabble and then did a little shopping because we still don't have our bag. (Boo. On that note - they did find it. It's just not delivered yet. It's supposed to be happening today.) Anyhow, after buying a new dress and some extra boring things, we took the other bus tour line (the Brittania tour) that goes down into Leith. Still interesting, but the city tour is superior for sure. After that, we wandered the Royal Mile for a bit again, popping into a few of my favourite stores around there (the Red Door Gallery, Pie in the Sky... Cool stuff!) and had a coffee break at Scran. Then we were getting ready for supper so we headed to Bonnie & Wild. I was surprised to see how much had changed! A few of the restaurants were the same (my personal favourites were still there - I must have really good taste 😏) and we had a great supper. Krispy Kreme for dessert, and then drinks at the Department of Magic! So much fun. 😊 It was a nice day filled with my favourite person and a lot of my favourite Edinburgh places!Read more

  • Glencoe - Highlands Tour Day 1

    August 29, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We had a few mini stops to get to here, but our first real stop on our tour today was Glencoe. I think this is my favourite place in Scotland, and one of my favourite places in the world. It's just so stunning. Pictures don't do it justice. Someday I'd like to be able to take a car and spend a few days dedicated to just exploring this area.Read more

  • Urquhart Castle & Loch Ness

    August 29, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Apparently controlling Urquhart Castle was about as important as controlling Stirling Castle. So, when the Jacobites were losing, they blew it up. 💣 These ruins are on Loch Ness. We followed our castle ruin exploration with a little boat ride up the Loch. We stood at the helm of the boat - wind in our hair.

Wallace has more pictures of the ruins, so I'll add more pictures later.

  • An Evening in Inverness

    August 29, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Our evening was fairly chill because we are both getting pretty tired. We walked around Inverness a bit, across the bouncy bridge and then up to the Castle. We had dinner at a place called Highlander and they had some live music as well. There was a place called The Malt Shop and it boasted having over 300 whiskies and we had a few drams and then we really just crashed in the hotel and got in a good snooze!Read more

  • Pitlochry

    August 30, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

I want to go back here. It was Queen Victoria's favourite town and I've decided she has good taste. We had lunch at a fish & chip shop, and I had cullen skink for the first time since being back. Yum yum! No pictures, just memories.Read more
